Questions & Mysteries Why did WB run away?

Why did Rocks monster trio run away?

  • Because Garp > Loger obviously

  • Because Oda is smoking crack and doesn't know wtf he's writing anymore

  • Because they wanted to save Shakky duh (reading comprehension nerd cope)

Not entirely. In the navy ship case, it didn't hurt Whitebeard's portrayal, as he was pretty chill when making the point that fighting Navy ships is pointless, as they are an entire organization that will keep sending forces.

In the Gap scene, he chickened out and ran, even yelling that it's Garp!! Run!! With Garp calling them sea kings in a "prime fishing spot". Garp literally called them a bunch of fish to hunt on a fishing trip.

Bro, that was painful to watch.
^That's the issue with WB's portrayal, in front of Garp he doesn't stand out more than either 30 yo BM or fruitless 20 yo Kaido. Just a strong Rocks subordinate among others.
Oda could easily have had WB get stalled by Roger a bit earlier to avoid this scene and "protect" him, but nope, he had WB look like a bitch to directly hype up Garp.
Although age wise Newgate should be close to his prime, it's possible that it's only when he became a captain that he reached his full potential as I don't believe this version of WB is intended to even be = Garp, let alone stronger.

Oda could've made Whitebeard look less pathetic anyways. It's Whitebeard we are talking about. Could've let Whitebeard and Garp have an equal clash before Whitebeard said he has no time dealing with Garp in a calm demeanor, instead of immediately having a run for his money with whitened eyes.
No sorry WB can only clash with Roger who wants to drink with him, yk, Garp won't go easy on him.

The great WB is being portrayed as just another Rocks rat through Garp's lens, and fans will tell you it's nothing.

This was the beginning of the end right here.

This is when I feared for WB every spoiler week, Oda had already shifted the meta. Lo and behold we started God Valley with a humiliating scene to the benefit of Garp.

Yes. The point is, whether that was 99% of Whitebeard's prime or just 50%, Garp would be in the same boat as his age relative (just 4 years of difference). Yet people pretend Garp was already in his prime while Whitebeard just set sail in east blue.

I mean, how are people excusing this?

Yes, and Oda could've portrayed Whitebeard's reaction in a way that wouldn't have tainted his dignity. Again, making Whitebeard have an equal clash with his peer and pointing out how he doesn't have time to deal with him at the moment, as he has more important stuff to do. This would be consistent with his glory at Marineford. Dying on his feet, and never suffering a wound from cowardice on his back.

That scene was not worthy of the king of the seas.
Because he doesn't have a ship to sail away and would have to do it on foot? Therefore WB lost his dignity?

And even if WB were to have an equal clash (which would be unnecessary screen time when he has already did it with Garp's peer anyway)
You'll be blasting Whitebeard in the same means Linlin is getting blasted right now

They are legit attacking WB aura lol.
That version of Whitebeard is 15 years old. Welcome to 2025. The narrator told us, Roger, Garp and Xebec were in charge of the pirating era. Whitebeard was just a minion of Xebec. A trophy won in a Davy Back fight.

Warp's portrayal stands supreme right now. Whitebeard doesn't hold a candle to it.

What's funny is they were actually dragging Garp for a while but immediately switched up after this chapter. They're not even consistent with the slander anymore. That's the type of person I hate most
If you dedicate your time on here to hating a character so much you better stick by it no matter what.

No, it's because of this:

Yea, you are sharing the same scenario on different manners. And the moment we do see panels of WB going for a pushback attack like Linlin did, you'll be going at everyone throats. So its damn if he did and damn if he didn't.

The same GV WB that's going tango to tango to Garp's peer (while WB is clean and Roger has rough and scurf marks) is somehow were acting like portrayal has been impacted. Give me a break

Why are you acting like Oda would draw a WB attack as pathetic as he did for Linlin?

He could easily have just drawn WB throwing an attack which created enough turmoil for them to get away. Though he wanted to add this touch to further hype Garp and he obviously isn't willing to use WB in the exact same manner as BM to achieve it.

Do you get it now why I said subordinates will never measure up to real leaders?
Wano was the beginning, the climax which will come in final war will be even worse. Only real top dogs/captains will get the special treatment.

I would start praying now if I was an admiral stan that no admiral fights a subordinate. If they do, it's over for them. Every bit of hype they have will be killed

Well, if Whitebeard's attempted pushback ended up with Garp shrugging it off and calling it useless, Whitebeard stocks would hit rock bottom.

Roger and Whitebeard are buddies who share drinks and came to God Valley for the same purpose, with Roger basically playing wingman for Rayleigh. As [No Name] pointed out, Garp won't go easy on him.

So my point was made? Damn if he did and damn if he didn't?

So what? They both wanted to take the W in gaining Shakky. The fight would of held at in a standstill as intended.

Garp not going easy on him is nothing more then WB knowing he has to nerf himself in order to deal with a serious Garp anyway.

Because the narrative Flashbacks insist that Garp is safe of any means. ANY attack you believe WB can dish out will now be looked significantly meaningless.
