Current Events Why do people hate Bonney’s Nika form so much?

It’s actually just the Nika saturation. Thematically, Bonney transforming into Nika checks out though. The writings of it happening were also written all over the walls. It’s just kind of mid that Nika is being shoved down our throats, people are probably sick of hearing Nika this and Nika that.
This honestly.

Luffy's basic character already nicely stood for every narrative theme and message that this whole Nika thing is trying to push. He's been going around liberating the oppressed, bringing smiles while goofing around, pushing people to fight for their dreams and all that stuff since the start of the manga but those actions used to be portrayed in a much more grounded and down to earth way before Nika.

One Piece has never been particularly subtle about it's themes (I actually think that's part of the charm) but things have been so over the top and in your face with recent developments that its genuinely hard to take seriously or find endearing/charming. Nika basically made Luffy a cheap caricature of what he already stood for.

It got even more ridiculous when lOda had Kuma reveal in his flashback that Luffy Nika was the first person in history to ever punch a celestial dragon. Its not because Luffy is a well-meaning pirate defending an octopus friend and teaching a scumbag a lesson, its because he's Nika, the freer of slaves. And you're telling me not a single CD got their shit kicked in or nicked during the God Valley incident? Come on now.

Yeah good writing needs to have subtlety and this Nikafest is anything but subtle. I had high hopes with the Kuma flashback and the general writing within Egghead. Oda really was tapping into his prime self of story writing throughout Egghead like Garp vs Kuzan. Then we get over the top Nika bullshit thrown in our plates. Oda’s serving up Nika for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It’s annoying.

It's stupid
Lemme put aside the Nika hate

  • Luffy worked hard and died to have his awakening (which was a huge retcon of his Gomu fruit into Nika fruit)
  • Bonney df was about aging then all of a sudden now she can copy abilities as long as she wishes a certain future
  • Bonney ends up becoming Nika just because "she believes in Nika and wanna be free too" which cheapens Luffy's awakening as Nika
  • "Foreshadowed" my foot

From what I can tell there are two camps of Bonney Nika hate

Camp 1- think that one Nika was enough and feel like the Nika wank is going way to far. They feel like Nika is ruining the series it takes away any kind of suspense

Camp 2- believe that her just doing it takes away from the fact that luffy literally had to die to get that form, they feel it cheapens his story and that she didn't earn it, that oda just wanted an excuse to draw another Nika

Both are valid reasons imo
