Questions & Mysteries Why does Mihawk have Christian iconography in his aesthetic?

#1
We are learning that Kuma was carrying around a bible because he was a literal pastor.

The character with the most Christian symbolism is Mihawk. So where is this going? (If it’s going anywhere to begin with)

- Mihawk’s name being Dracule means Son of Dragon (and the Dragon part is the Biblical dragon that means Satan or the Devil himself)

- Mihawk carries around two crosses (both are blades)

- His hat is Spanish Conquistador designed, the conquistadors were Spanish Christian colonizers and missionaries

- His coffin boat also has another Cross for a sail

is this all because Oda thinks Christianity is cool or is it because Mihawk is a true believer in Jesus Christ the Lord and Savior

Cuz Oda thinks Christianity motifs are cool. I’ve seen people in Japan wear crosses and shit but none of them actually believe in jesus or god, they just think it’s fashion.

Agree. Mihawk’s hat is similar to the ones worn by Spanish conquistadors, who were explorers and soldiers that colonized and converted many parts of the Americas and Asia in the name of Spain and Christianity. The conquistadors were known for their bravery, ambition, and cruelty, as they often exploited and oppressed the native peoples they encountered. Mihawk’s hat could symbolize his adventurous spirit, his dominance over other swordsmen, or his involvement in the history and politics of the One Piece world.

Cross simply indicates Religion
Even Enel's Throne had a Cross

It's like Oda is using it as Universal Symbol for Most Religions
Doesn't mean that all People who hold a Cross have same Beliefs, it simply indicates that They Worship Someone
For Example, Graves are marked with Crosses in many Places (East Blue, Fishmen Island, Arabasta, Thriller Bark, Germa ... etc)

We are supposed to believe that Most OPVerse's Population believe in Higher Power
But so far, Only Three Characters seem to include the Cross as Part of their Design, indicating They actually have an Idea of who this Higher Power is

With Kuma it's revealed He worships Sun God
But Remaining Two are Mihawk & Moria, and i believe They Worship another God who is Final Villain

When We finally see Nika's Flashback, just like He ended up being called Sun God, there will obviously be a Villain in his Flashback who also was called God (Basically Enel of Story), and as Gan Fall Explained, He believes God is just a Title for someone who Rules, someone who cares for his People (And when Enel was gonna Destroy Skypiea, Conis was seen Praying, and then Luffy was shown saving everyone, the Scene played out as if it was Luffy who answered her Prayers)

So Sun God represents the Guy who saved the Day, hence why They call him God
But there is a Villain who was called God because He was Invincible & forced everyone to treat him that way

This Villain, this Self-Proclaimed God of OPVerse is who Mihawk & Moria Worship (Especially Mihawk)
And this is Pretty Clear, Zoro is Pirate Hunter, Mihawk is Marine Hunter, Zoro is Samurai-Like, Mihawk is Knight-Like, Zoro Grew Up as an Underdog, Mihawk probably Grew Up as a Prodigy, Mihawk is Clairvoyant-Like, Zoro is Worst at Directions, Zoro is Atheist, Mihawk is obviously Very Religious

Why is He not in his Church or Worshipping Place or near his God? Cuz just like Zoro couldn't go back to his Home cuz He got Lost, Mihawk also can't go back to his Home but this time it's because his Island that is Lost (Opposite of Zoro just like everything else).
So Mihawk comes from an Island that is "Lost", it's possible that Mihawk Originates from Ancient Kingdom

And Zoro always Fights Villain's Henchman (But who isn't 2nd in Hierarchy)
So when Final Villain shows up, Mihawk is gonna be his Obedient Henchman (Someone who Hypes his Boss)
Mihawk is Henchman of Strongest Villain Ever (Literally Enel of One Piece)

So Cross Guild is gonna become Organization under Final Villain's Rule, with Buggy as his No. 2 (Literally why there is Cross in it's Name)
Mihawk's Entire Design simply Indicates Existence of a Character who even WSS considers to be God
And He isn't a Celestial Dragon nor Sun God nor Anyone We've seen so far, otherwise Mihawk would be kneeling for Imu or Liberating Slaves

Mihawk's God is Powerful Enough to make WG, Elbaf & Yonko look like a Joke
Only Luffy can Beat Him because for some Reason He Counters him, just like Enel's Case

As for World Government, They simply represent Satanic Cult with Imu being their High Priest, and their entire Goal is to Summon their Ruler Satan (Imu is leading this whole Operation), They are basically like Illuminati who are believed to Run World Affaires both Secretly & Publicly, and they are Preparing the World for Arrival of Anti-Christ, so that They start a War against Self-Proclaimed God of OPVerse

And this was shown in Fishmen Island Arc, there is One Character who Challenged God of OPVerse & was Cursed (Just like Satan) & WG is trying to Summon him after preparing a better Army this time, and this Guy would wear Straw Hat shown in Mary Geoise & He would attack Fishmen Island because He seeks Shirahoshi (Poseidon), and his Origin Story is same as Davy Jones who is considered Most Evil Pirate Ever, They literally called him The Devil

It's none other than Vander Decken
OP Story is about World Government Worshipping Satan (Vander Decken whose Powers were Inherited by Man With Burn Scar)
And Freedom Fighters Worshipping Sun God (Nika whose Powers were Inherited by Luffy)
And Majority of Others Worshipping Sea God (Final Villain whose Powers were Inherited by God of Elbaf)

As Dorry/Brogy said, when Two Fight, it's God of Elbaf who decides who is Right & grants Divine Protection to Winner
Divine Protection from New World to Little Garden? He obviously have Enel-Like Presence

One Piece Story is simply about Atheist vs God vs Devil
Why do you think Oda made his Japanese-Like SH (Zoro) say "I don't Pray to God"?
It's cuz the Story is about Oda's Atheism beating both Religious People & Devil Worshippers
With All Three having different idea of what the Word "God" means

But Remaining Two are Mihawk & Moria, and i believe They Worship another God who is Final Villain
Why is this other God represented with Christian symbols

You answered your own thread. Its simply part of his design.
His sword is also styled after the "cross fleury" in MJ (or on Oars).
@trav
Sure but then again we are getting into Christian symbolism mattering more than designs now.

people were looking at the Pentagrams on the Gorosei rooms for 800 chapters and not thinking much of it… You could just say “pentagrams are evil and the Gorosei are evil so the pentagrams in the Gorosei rooms are just a design thing there to emphasize their evil”… And now suddenly it’s actually important… Imu has a Devil tail, the Gorosei teleport in “magic circles”, Sabo says it’s Hell

And randomly the worshiper of God Nika is surrounded by Crosses and churches so Oda wants us to associate Nika with Christian symbols too now

so… Dracule literally being “Son of Satan” as Mihawk’s name should probably figure into this random heighten importance of Christian iconography right?

Why is this other God represented with Christian symbols
I literally explained it at beginning
Oda took the Cross from Christians, but it doesn't indicate Christianity in One Piece
It's simply a Symbol that indicates Religious People regardless of their Faiths

Similar to how Skull & Crossbones is Symbol of Pirates, but it doesn't mean All Pirates follow the same Flag
Each Crew have a Different Flag, but Skull/Crossbones is Present in Most of them

In One Piece, there are Many Religions, and Cross is Present in Most of them, it's a General Symbol
But Main Three Religions in One Piece are WG's Religion (Satanism), Mihawk's Religion (Final Villain) & Kuma's Religion (Sun God)

Wano War was about "Birth of Sun God"
Mary Goise War is about "Birth of Sea Devil"
Elbaf War is about "Birth of Sea God"

Luffy Claimed Wano as his Territory & Momo Rules it
Sea Devil Claimed Mary Geoise as his Territory & Imu Rules it
Sea God Claimed Elbaf as his Territory & it's Ruled by a Non-Introduced Character

As for Three Emperors aside from Luffy?
Shanks will be Led by Luffy
Buggy will be Led by Sea God
And BB will be Led by Sea Devil (Man With Burn Scar)

Where is Pluton? Hidden Under Wano
Where is Poseidon? Hidden Under Mary Geoise
Where is Uranus? Probably Hidden Under Elbaf Kingdom

It's also pretty clear that Wano Samurai are known for their Sword Skills, Mary Geoise Holy Knights are known for their Devil Powers & Elbaf Giant Vikings are known for their Physical Strength

National Treasure of Wano is a Preserved Sword (But it doesn't look like other Swords, it's a Modified Sword)
National Treasure of Mary Geoise is a Preserved DF (But it doesn't look like other DFs, it's a Modified DF)
National Treasure of Elbaf is a Preserved Body (But it doesn't look like other Bodies, it's a Modified Body)

Elbaf's Treasure is none other than Ancient Robot on Egghead, it was Lost to them just like what happened with Shusui
Mary Geoise's Treasure is gonna be a DF that was somehow Enhanced (Not it's User, but the Fruit itself)

And this Comparison between all Three continues on & on
But eventually it's all about Luffy/Shanks/Wano/Samurai ... etc vs Sea Devil/BB/WG/Knights ... etc vs Sea God/Buggy/Elbaf/Vikings ... etc

Dracul Mihawk has some vampire aesthetics going on for him. That's probably the reason for his name, attire, the coffin boat, the crosses and even his former island of residence seems inspired by Transylvania.

Nice thread. I believe Mihawk's design is based on Shirano from Oda's Wanted one shot. Shirano gets defeated by Ryuma in Wanted. Shirano's design was more aligned to a Spanish conquistadors. Oda took Shirano's design and added the cross shaped neckless, cross shaped Yoru, etc. Shirano was a greedy man and a fraud. Oda changed that character to a righteous person and a man of honor, that could be the reason why he introduced those religious symbols.
