Questions & Mysteries Why doesn't Zoro consider King a swordsman?

#21
Still during most of the fight, King used his sword lol !

He doesn't consider himself as a swordsman but it's his strongest style.
Really? What style?
King himself disagree with you regarding swordsman style.

Anw, if he really has some style, this style is more iconic from him than his swordsmanship:

I think for a swordsman, a sword is an extension of their body. It's not just a tool. For King, his sword is just a tool to help him win the fight and has no problem with tossing it aside if it isn't working for him.

King thought Zoro was an idiot for risking his life for a sword. To Zoro, his swords are something worth risking his life for. They are important to him.

On a side note, it's kinda weird that Zoro got irritated by King trying to win by knocking Zoro off of Onigashima. I thought it might be because Zoro still thought of King as a swordsman at the time and was angry that King tried to do that instead of cutting Zoro down with his sword, however, the top panel in the original post is from a later chapter than the other image. The page about Zoro realizing that King isn't a swordsman was in 1023, but the panel about Zoro getting irritated is from 1027.

Usually swordsmen respect/love their swords and they are something like partners for them. This is the reason why King is not a swordsman, if he really were he would not be asking questions from Zoro about risking his life for his swords. Further reinforced when King mocks Zoro about his sword Enma causing him problems. But at the same time King also said that he likes a good duel and started clashing with Zoro in a sword fight.

It is one of those instances where I am quite surprised that some fans have not used for their arguments. The stakes are too high now, even the WSS aspirer is willing to bite his opponents throat to ensure that he does not lose. Has Zoro lost his dream, his principles? There is no guarantee that his opponents on this journey are all going to be swordsmen, that they will respect the rules of 1v1 combat/duel. For Zoro to be the WSS, he has to ensure that he is stronger than every opponent that he may have to face. He is not afraid of, rather he wants to fight against the likes of Admirals and Yonkos too, Fujitora and Kaido. Him trying to fight Fujitora at DR end and Kaido before RT is different from before where he would let Luffy go for the top dog. Of course he does not want to interrupt Luffy fights like against Doffy but DR end is different where he wants to switch places with Luffy against Fuji after Fuji throws Luffy towards the GF. Similarly he did not relegate himself to anyone besides Kaido in Onigashima before RT. Only after learning that Luffy has found a way to fight Kaido at end of RT and seeing the situation on the Live Floor did he opt to fight King.

A swordsmanship is a style, thought it was obvious like brawler, df user, even spamming from long distance like a mage.

King said there is no need to stick with one style but still he was using his sword against zoro, even at the climax. So it was his strongest style because he can coat his sword with fire or magma his attacks.

Just like Shank and Roger
Because Shanks and Roger are 6 meters giant, throw punches and kicks that make people fly away. Walk with a brass knuckles with spikes ? from a special race that use fire and magma and have wings ? Or maybe zoan user or maybe spamming df power by distance ?

No, they use their named swords everywhere and for each moves coated with their haki ... but they fight like luffy, right? :laughmoji:

Zoro never said he didn't think king was a swordsman and king never said he wasn't a swordsman. King said he why should he restrict himself to only a school or style of swordsmanship not that he wasn't a swordsman. Zoro agreed and said king never presented himself as a swordsman aka he never said he was only a swordsman as such would only use his sword. King is quite clearly a swordsman but he would throw it away if it meant he could win.

Zoro also said he bite his throat out and agreed he's willing to be like king. So does Zoro not consider himself a swordsman?

He never said King wasn't a swordman and he kind of put himself in King place saying that he would even bite him to make sure he would win.

Hard to explain how Oda messed up hard on this. King can still be considered a swordman given take his strongest and ultimate moves were made with a sword. And Zoro would still be a swordman if he bite King.
