Questions & Mysteries Why is Shiliew constantly brought up as this Top Tier swordsman that could kill Mihawk?

#69
Several detractors of Mihawk insinuate the guy will get killed by this nobody for supposedly lacking feats, how he only has his title etc when literally the same shit applies to Shiliew to an even greater degree. Shiliew literally has NO feats to speak of. He killed some fodder in Impel Down, potentially killed Absalom, and is said to be Magellan lvl.

What the hell am I missing? Is it just that he got on Blackbeards crew? Story logic says he can't be a total bitch since his eventual fight against Zoro needs to be at least semi-interesting, but where does the "he will kill Mihawk" shit come from? Did I miss some SPS where Oda calls him a great swordsman like Mihawk somewhere? Or is it honestly just the sort of bullshit logic some people use where since Mihawk "trained" Zoro they can no longer fight? Because newsflash people, Oda won't write out the fight he set up almost over 1000 chapters ago between Mihawk and Zoro just to instead make him lose off-screen to some no feat bad guy just so the "tension" could be a bit higher.

Zoro never killed any of his swordsmen opponents anyway. All his kills are no-names / off-screened, so why anybody thought his battle with Mihawk would be different even before the time-skip is a mystery to me. Sure they will go all out, and "anything can happen" but let's be fucking real alright? Oda was never killing him either way.
To downplay Mihawk :milaugh:

Didn’t Zoro fight Mihawk in Baratie? Did Zoro have animosity towards Mihawk in Baratie?
Yes as he was his opponent for the title of the strongest swordsman. Difference is before that he didn't spend 2 years training with the guy building a student and master relationship.

If you Zbois truly can't see the possibility of Zoro and Mihawk not happening as some 1 on 1 duel on some magic island somewhere then you're lost. Oda is a plot driven writer first and what better way would there be to give Shiryu hype before a Zoro encounter than beat Mihawk

You are missing that Magellan is a beast that one-shotted BB crew at Impel Down. And if Shiryu is on his level... not that I ever believed that. To me Magellan could one-shot him just fine.

But now that we have haki things change. Shiryu may be on Magellan level which is pretty close to Admiral level.

I guess perhaps Yami Teach was not done with and could have attempted to do something of concrete against Magellan, not sure if he would have been able to win that however. 🤔

Yes as he was his opponent for the title of the strongest swordsman
How will that have changed if they spent time together?

the only thing between Zoro and mihawk before Baratie was that Zoro wanted to defeat Mihawk… That’s his only drive… Has that changed?

like on panel, have you seen anything in the story to indicate that has changed? If not, then you are in your headcanon… Zoro has the exact same drive he had then as he does now

Zoro wasn’t trying to kill Mihawk in bratie or avenge kuina coz Mihawk killed her or was jealous of Mihawk or just didn’t like Mihawk’s feathered hat… None of that existed and so none of it exists now too

Mihawk has no plot to fight Teach
Yonko vs Yonko,
Yes he doesn't have connection to Teach ..... but if Teach gets Pluton then i think Oda might give him or Aokiji to help Shanks , because if not then Shanks & Red Haired Pirates will get instantly flattened by attacks from Teach + Pluton ( and i don't think Oda will treat RHP like that )

plus Luffy is going to beat Kaido , so i think Teach will trump it by beating 2 top tiers
( most likely Shanks + Mihawk ) , yes Teach will have massive help from Pluton but Luffy has received tons of help as well from other SNs , Scabbards , which is why Kaido is weakened right now to the point Onigashima is crumbling
i still think Beckmann is more fitting to fight Shiryu

Didn't get it. Shiryu literally saved them all. Maybe if Teach used his powers first he could have a chance.

Magellan was portrayed as an inbetween Admirals and Vice Admirals pre-Ts and Shiryuu was the same level.
If you take into account Powercreep then Shiryu is a top tier now, especially with the addition of his newly acquired DF.
I used to think Shiryu would steal Jozu's DF and then beat Mihawk but looking back now it was ridiculous since haki owns anything in this manga and Diamond isn't an exeption.
