This is just flat out lying. He said he picked out the no. 2's. He never said anything about multiple number 2's within the same crew. Stop it.
The phrase "Picked out" which Oda uses.
Lastly Oda picked Zoro...between Zoro abd Sanji because the colourspread wouldve always been a Zoro colourspread. Before the No 2s....it was a swordsman colourspread. Zoro wouldve always been on their...thus Oda never had to pick which one he wanted on their.

Because there is a hierarchy when it comes to significant traits or moments. And the portrayal of Zoro as the right hand man is far more significant as compared to random panels you pick up.

- Just as Rayleigh, Zoro was the first one to join the future pirate King
- The vivre card says that Zoro often acts as the vice captain [1] regardless of the SHP not having an "official" vice captain position

- People even wonder why Zoro himself isn't the captain, given his ambition

Zoro is the first one to joined the SHP. He and Luffy created the crew because alone you are not a crew.
The clear parallel between Zoro and Rayleigh tells you everything.
Just accept something once. You ain't gonna see Zoro fans saying Zoro is the cook of the crew because he isn't. Same as Sanji who is not the vc, fm, right hand or not even one of the pillars of the crew (luffy, zoro and nami).

The latter is your desperate interpretation of Sanji getting to do some cool thing that Zoro does almost if not literally every other time for 1000+ chapters.
