Why he gave them such huge portrayal and reputation compared to others ?

Those guys have 2 largest bounties. He gave Roger pirate king title and after that he named a entire era WHitebeard era.

WHitebeard was world strongest man and pirate , said to be capable of destroying the world and Roger was his equal , they even fought to standstill . While they were alive Oda never downplayed them by having them suffer any real fair defeat in battle .

Even in end Roger never got caught by navy , instead he did surrender himself on his own.

Whitebeard while being half death at marineford was never knocked out on the ground , Oda respected him so much he literally died while standing, his life just expired from so many wounds .

Oda never gave this treatment to other powerhouses that came after like Big Mom or Kaido. He only started hyping them after making sure both Roger and Whitebeard were dead. Oda gave them bounties lower than those 2 , even made it clear Kaido had lost 7 times and got caught by navy many times , while Big Mom became like joke in the end. Finally Oda made them suffer sound defeat and threw their bodies into lava .

--Its not these two but most old legend character oda gives lot of respect. An old rusty ray was able to hold off Kizaru.

--Old garp who has retired was doing good against a former admiral + yonko crew.

--Roger , WB , Garp , Rocks etc all of them are respected highly by oda.

--Compared to that , in current gen shanks is a character like that who always gets win and is written in perfect way.

This question goes back to how Oda treats the "good guys" of the series vs the "bad". Basically, there is the "good timeline" and the "bad timeline". Your actions and how you treat people will determine the character, morals, dreams, and even your appearance! Look at what the author drew for the Straw Hats at different ages and futures:

In Japanese culture, the elders are always treated with respect and reverence so as long as you are a character who has done good things, had many experiences etc then Oda will love you and make sure you look the best.

• Roger was already important from the very first pages of the series and he's the so called "Pirate King".
• Whitebeard in particular was based on the Japanese legend of Benkei (spoiler: he died standing upright) as well as his face was modelled after a barman that Oda used to visit. You can find that info in the Yellow Grand Elements Databook.

Luffy, Roger, Shanks, Whitebeard: all of these pirates are examples of the old "peace main" concept that Oda had. They are those who love to adventure and travel the seas. Not always interested in treasure/looting 100% of the time or oppressing inhabitants. On the other hand, Big Mom and Kaido enjoy having others submit to their will and are not exactly the most upstanding people to be around or work for (Morganeers).

That does not mean there aren't exceptions, but it is a noticeable trend. We shall see what fate Blackbeard will face.

The two were treated as the golden standard of pirates.

On the other hand, Big Mom and Kaido were the top Silver medalists.
There's also because of Luffy himself who shares many of Roger/WB's aspects.

Pretty much. Also its a common trend in manga for old characters to be strongest for example netero from hunter x hunter or yamamoto from bleach.

They are the best of the best. Oda has gone out of his way to treat them special because they occupy a special place in the story: the Pirate King & pseudo-Pirate King.

They set the standard of what the MC Luffy has to surpass, so their legend has to be larger than life. Most of the rest like Kaido & Big Mom are just obstacles on the way to that.

WB cruising on his rep for decades.

WB unable to build up a successor to make sure his legacy does not fall apart.
WB getting everything taken away by Teach.

The are only unsullied if you are a master of selective reading.
