Character Discussion Why Zoro is a horrible character

instead of having zoro vs smoothie a sword master that is completely different challenge because of her fruit combined with the sword we get zoro vs 2 yonko ...why ? Because that what fanboys want. They would scream of hyoe if they see zoro vs 4 yonko and he one shots them all...worse then DBZ fans.

This is my opinion about zoro whole character...it’s a wasted potential...in land of swords but fights 2 yonko because greed.
funny thing is most of one piece fandom are probably zoro fans which should tell you why they really like this manga.

I want to address this part. One of the Yonko Zoro fought was a dragon. The character Zoro was directly inspired from had a 1-shot dedicated to fighting a dragon. Swordsmen in fiction and mythology commonly are associated with dragons. He isn't going against his archetype because he isn't fighting every swordsman that's named.

Zoro is part of the new generation of Pirates facing the old guard. A classic Old vs. New setup.

It wasn't just hype for the sake of hype. One Piece is a story that heavily revolves around generations and the changing tides, and Zoro fighting the Emperors contributed to that narrative through-line. Despite being a subordinate, he has left enough of a mark in the world to stand out as one of its primary figures in the coming era.

His character wasn't forsaken because he didn't fight someone he's never met, and had no real chance of meeting, given everything that's going on.

Zoro's character is incredible. A man willing to die for his ambition, yet willing to throw his ambition away for those he wants to protect. A beast acknowledged even by the Yonko.

Zolo is decent, bit in Wano in particular he have been disappointing

this arc shouldve been about knowing more Zolo and add more to his story like Sanji in WCI

but so far there's not even a character arc for him, there's no struggle or any development , even his motivation to fight Kaido was dumb and led to nothing

but the arc isn't over and I still have hope Oda will give Zolo depth , otherwise we can just finally accept he's just mediocre character in a mediocre manga

But supernova captains should fight the yonko and their underlying should stay out of it.
Zoro never cared/ had any connection or fought Luffy opponents aka the big bad...he always fought the underlying thus him fighting against kaido AND big mom which is even more random felt so forced and so stupid...it’s much deeper then zoro being weaker then Luffy. It’s breaking a pattern/theme that the author set up since the start of story.

I am also aware of the dragon thing which is btw as you said come from different manga not this manga. Ryuma being known for slaying a dragon is the only thing but again just because something was set up doesn’t make it good...not when that dragon is the big bad.

about smoothie; she is a big mom pirate which a pirate crew that the straw hats started war against and big mom want vengeance. Zoro should go after her as the strongest swordman in that crew and not your regular swordman (like king ?) she will present zoro with different challenge. He should go after her nonetheless because of his dream to become the world greatest swordman.

but oda was like nah no and all the hype about wano being the land of samurai and sword masters went out of the window...so much potential was wasted. Not a single samurai/ sword master for zoro to grow as a swordman and achieve his dream.

Zoro never cared/ had any connection or fought Luffy opponents aka the big bad...he always fought the underlying thus him fighting against kaido AND big mom which is even more random felt so forced and so stupid...it’s much deeper then zoro being weaker then Luffy. It’s breaking a pattern/theme that the author set up since the start of story.

Not to beat every scrub swordsman
Fighting 2 yonko pushed zoro to the limit and made him unlock coc. Beating smoothie does NOTHING. Zoro is now stronger after fighting yonko. So he is closer to his dream. Fighting smoothie wouldn't do shit.

How is Smoothie any more special than King?

That doesn't change the fact that Zoro is inspired by Ryuma, therefore a lot of what Ryuma did will inform Zoro.

How does fighting Smoothie reconcile the hype of the Wano Samurai? Smoothie isn't a Wano Samurai.

As for the hype, that was due to its reputation from the outside world. Orochi and Kaido are what led Wano to decay, alongside its warriors. We see glimpses that Wano in its prime had very formidable warriors, but it can't realize that while the Beast Pirates oppress them.

Says who? Because it's certainly wasn't Oda. Oda didn't make any distinction between captains and underlings. Zoro and Killer are every bit Worst Generation as their captains.

A first for everything. Just because Zoro had no strong desire to fight the big bad before doesn't mean he wouldn't eventually. His storyline on Wano led him to Kaido.
