The Ukraine Government was overthrown back in 2014, spliting Ukraine. Donezk and Luhansk are mostly Russian and were attacked by Ukraine and the Nazi Batalion for over 8 years now. The West also provided Ukraine with weapons to fight donezk and luhansk - executing genocide.
Donezk and Luhansk asked Russia for help many times, but Russia tried to solve it diplomaticaly - there were the minsk agreements, that didn't lead to anything, since the attacks continued for 8 years.
After 8 years Russia had enough. There is a limit to how far you can push something, at some point you gonna get a reaction.

This is not a war, case no one declared a War. You know there exist rules that prevent one country attack another country nowadays, which is called international agreement. Those agreement exist nowadays to prevent war beetween different countries. It's modern world, and this could lead to WW3 exactly because ignoring international agreement.
Also if WW3 will happen there will be no winner, case humanity will just dissapear. This is why madman like Putin needs to be stopped, or nothing will stop him in the future, and by this I mean there will be no future at all.
