Questions & Mysteries Would you prefer your favorite character to be super strong but not very relevant, or vital to the plot but weak?

For example, Shiki is one of the strongest characters, but he has little relevance to the story. He fought Roger that one time, but ultimately, his presence doesn't impact the plot. If you remove Shiki from the story, not much would change.

On the other hand, Robin, despite being relatively weak, is extremely important. She plays a crucial role in driving the plot forward.

Obviously, the ideal scenario is having your favorite character be both super strong and super relevant. However, between the two options, relevancy outweighs power.

Why choosing black or white when you can choose grey instead?

Zoro for example is extremely strong and destined to be one of the strongest in the verse and is also the second most important character besides luffy.

Vital to the plot but weak. That way there is more chance for character development. But ofc entertainment is important too. Powerful but not vital characters can provide entertainment through cool and spectacular fights and moves. Vital but weak characters are kinda predispositioned to provide entertainment cause they're, well, vital and will be present in most important events...but it works when the plot is at least decent.

Honestly I don't really care about how strong my favorite characters are as long as they are a good character I like. So I would go with weak but vital to the plot.

It depends on why I like that character in first place. If a character is highlighted more due to power , then yeah I prefer the first option. If I like a character based on their characterization , then second option.

Usually both are intertwined.

All of my top 4-5 favourites in the series are arc villains.
They are heavily intertwined with the narratives, and drives the narrative even. But they do so, because they are very strong.

Obviously being vital to the plot. A strong background character like Shiki only serves to argue with random people on the internet and spread misinformation.

Zoro is not super strong, he is strong and somewhat relevant. I do agree he represents the best mix of strength (combat focus + being badass) and relevance while not being ever-present

Sanji is more relevant (generally) and his story much more interesting but he definitely lacks combat focus. Sanji's potential as a character is ridiculously high but I prefer how Zoro is being handled as of today. Being a Sanji fan is so stressful

If you like a character that is the fight focused badass like a Kenpachi he needs to be strong otherwise he'll lose his only purpose and become a meme but other than that i take plot relevant.

Moral compass, personality , how funny they are , their design ( appearance ) , badass level , those things are ones that matter .

If female then how pretty her face is and how huge her boobs are.
