I dont know what Oda is smoking. Mihawk feat now is so terrible and ruin the WSS title. This even get worst when compared with Rayleigh.

- Marine scare to death to fight Rayleigh. In contrast, Mihawk got surround by marine ships immediately once he lost 7 warlord title.

- Rayleigh could enjoy peaceful life without relying on anyone. In contrast, Mihawk need to work under government and now Buggy in order to secure his boring life.

- Rayleigh doesnt hesitate to fight admirals and Yonko. Teach and Kizaru scare of him. In contrast, Mihawk seems to avoid fighting anyone. In marine ford he get stalled by Vista, the 4th commander. Come on, where is the bloodlust to fight strong opponent.

Honestly, this makes Zoro dream sound like a joke now. What's the point of being WSS without being the strongest fighter? I expect Mihawk to live up the hype as a solo pirate who no one dare to challenge him, not a clown's subordinate like this.
but in that scenario mihawk won't have a place in the story

The title is only a joke because oda only wrote zoro giving a shit about it. legit no other swordsman in the story cares about it. like we see others caring about the pirate king title. it would have been nice to see zoro having to fight others who care about the title. wss is such a nonissue that im convinced roger made it up at one point.

Not the first time I read this point and I hard disagree with it.

Zoro not "competing" with people for the WSS title is perfectly fine, because said title is only a bar. It affords no benefits. You simply become it if you become strong enough. It's the simplest thing in this series.

In contrast, if you get the PK title you get power, wealth and fame. WSS, WSM and WSC are just measurements of strength, nothing more, nothing less. Only Zoro cares for the title specifically for a very personal reason, a promise that he took to heart, very One Piecey.

Which also means that while saying "nobody is gunning for WSS' title" is technically true, it's an absolute lie: everyone is gunning to be the strongest even if for different purposes, so to become the WSS, Zoro has to compete with every other swordsman ambitious and talented swordsman, regardless of their personal aims, and with every single fighter between them that he uses as ladders.

That's the competition: every single swordsman between his current strength and Mihawk's, which is every single swordsman in the verse.

In the first place, WSS is never the strongest fighter, since that is the place aimed by Kaidou-WB-Roger-Xebec and now Luffy. I think you shouldnt have that high of expectation since the strongest fighter will always be Luffy's place.

And i think Oda placing Mihawk as Buggy's subordinate is due to the narrative of Cross Guild participation in Laugh Tale Battle...
Wrong.

WSS is one of the strongest fighters. It's a world strongest title. Let me know when characters can break black blade, one of the strongest defense and can stop the Pinnacle of swordsmanahip, one of the strongest offensive power in the manga.

The Yonkos didn't go around challenging each other, Marines, and pirates. Instead, they hung out their territory drinking wine and and terrorizing the local people.

problem with the WSS title isn’t that Mihawk doesn’t want to fight the Yonko, the problem with WSS title is that nobody in the story but Zoro cares about it

Oda needed to introduce characters that were aiming for that as well
I disagree with that. Mihawk said during MF he doesn't remember every single insect he crushed.

The WSS part of the story isn't about Mihawk defending his title, it's about Zoro aiming for the title. So we don't need to know every single person chasing after the title.

Show not tell.

having characters with WSS aspirations fight off Zoro would be a great way to give more prestige to WSS. Right now Mihawk is like a Boxer in an empty division, or the division is just one guy who’s off to the side fighting random dudes to be able to contend for the title
