Character Discussion Yamato has too much going for her to not be a SH

Fk sakes every time we go to an island you guys want to vote the token female to a Strawhats status.

Leave well enough alone.

Vivi, Monet, Rebecca, Yamato.. when is it going to end?

You guys would perv all 4 of those women and they would refuse to join your ships. You know that, and yet you still insist on bringing every woman you see on the journey.

Tsk tsk tsk keep it in your pants, boys. It's a damn drawing.
Yamato's case is different. She isn't a weaksauce like vivi/rebecca. She is user of adv coc + mythical zoan user. She adds to crew strength and it suits much more as SH are now a yonko crew. Also unlike rebecca or monet , oda had yamato spamming " I will join your crew" line.

See, this is where you should have gotten suspicious.
It was never Luffy wanting her but Yamato forcing herself in.
Luffy never got to say a word and Yamato was already acting like she is in and declared herself a member.

Jinbei was the only one rational.

What? :seriously:

Luffy literally wanted yamato to join at the end and got angry that she was not going to join lol

I believe that Yamato will join, but I disagree with those who think she didn't join because she was stronger than Zoro & Sanji, because it's easy for Oda (or any mangaka) to control the power levels of his characters, so the way I think about it, is that Oda made Yamato that strong because he knew she wouldn't join in Wano's arc. I also disagree with those who think Oda has changed his mind, & made a last minute decision, because there were other reasons for Yamato not to join in Wano, for example Jinbe's joining (Oda never made two members joining happen in one arc), or protecting Wano until Momo becomes stronger, since the samurai aren't that strong, but those reasons were not enough to convince me, because Oda could have made the samurai stronger than they are now, so I thought that there must be another reason, something forced Oda to keep Yamato in Wano, and then I thought that it was Pluton, because no matter how much he controls his story, Oda can't bring Pluton to the story yet, and then I searched for connections between Yamato and Pluton, & found impressive connections, which was stated in this theory:

Yamato and Pluton is least likely to be the reason.

Also Zoro is already stronger than Yamato lol

nope, if it was true that Yamato is connected to Pluton, then Oda would have no choice but to leave her in Wano until Pluton gets out.
yeah, Zoro could be stronger, but they are very close anyway, so it's not clear if he really is stonger, not to mention that Sanji needs to be stronger than Yamato as well so that she can join.

Zoro slices through her. There really isn't much of a competition lmao.
And yamato being left behind is because SH don't need more crew member. Half of the SH are running around in the background. Oda can't even focus properly on the current ones let alone a new one now.

A lot of people don't like Yamato's character, I kinda agree. The oden thing is dumb and she is overall pretty underdeveloped. However be that as it may, if you look at everything we know about this character, imo her addition to the crew is an eventuality.

Several points:
  • Luffy said he would accept Yamato as a SH

  • Yamato says she wants to be a SH

With these two points alone, Yamato is in a completely different category than every single fan-pushed SH candidate. There have been people who Luffy wanted to join, but ultimately couldn't. These are people like Gaimon or even Vivi. You also have people who the fans have wanted to join, but neither Luffy nor the character showed any real interested in joining. Characters like Carrot or Monet are good examples of this.

The closest character you have to Yamato in the past SH candidates is Jinbe. Like Yamato, Jinbe was offered an invite and he accepted, however he couldn't join right away due to an ongoing conflict. Eventually Jinbe did join.

Yamato is the exact same way. She wants to join, Luffy will allow her, but she can't due to the status of wano. But if wano were to be further secured, then this would no longer be an issue.

Furthermore, Yamato has even more in her favor.
  • her dream aligns with the SHs

Yamato wishes to follow in Oden's footsteps. This literally necessitates her to leave wano and go see Laugh Tale.

  • She knows Luffy's dream

The only people who know Luffy's dream is his brothers, Shanks, and the SHs. No Vivi, no Carrot, exclusive to the people who are the closest to Luffy.

Yeah individually, I feel like you can pick apart the different arguments for Yamato, but when you look at them in totality, there just hasn't been a character like this before. This really begs the question, what is the purpose of Yamato?

The last SH, Jinbe, officially joined the crew in Wano

This was the first time he was officially regarded as a SH by the narration box and I believe this is the point where Oda started including him in the color spreads.

The inclusion of Jinbe into the SHP symbolized Luffy's ascent from rookie to yonko. Every yonko crew, save for Cross Guild, has a captain with 3 top subordinates. Up until wano, Luffy just had 2, Zoro and Sanji. This is why Jinbe's addition to the crew was so pivotal. Had Jinbe joined in FI, things could have been very different. Simply put, Jinbe was too strong. Oda needed to delay his arrival to just the point to where Luffy needing someone like him on his team.

Yamato is the exact same way.

Roger had counterparts for Zoro and Sanji; Rayleigh and Scopper. He also had a counterpart for Jinbe; Sunbell. But there is one member that Roger had, which not only do the SHs not have a counterpart for, but neither do any of the yonko. That being Oden. Up until he joined, Oden was WB's RHM. Whereas previously, the WBP and the Roger Pirates seemed to be comparable, this was no longer the case once Oden joined the Roger pirates. With Oden on the Roger pirates, the Roger Pirates were undeniably the strongest crew at the time.

This is exactly what Yamato will do for Luffy. Whereas Jinbe took Luffy from a rookie to a yonko, Yamato will take him from a yonko to a pirate king.
Good to see SOMEONE has good reading comprehension. All the naysayers probably thought Jinbei was out of the running in FMI.

At least itll probably hurt less the second time.

Yamato will never join the crew she'll be an ally along with the Momo, Kinemon and the rest of Wano
Post automatically merged:

Also she was never planned to a be crew member and then Oda changing his mind. It was a bait and switch by Oda making readers believe that she would join the crew

I think Wano ancient weapon will be stolen in the next arcs and Yamato will go after whoever took it.That way she will team up with the straw hats again.

Yamato not joining after all that buildup she was given was such a massive slap to the face. The bait and switch had no payoff and it felt almost mean spirited on Oda’s part.

After all that, I just don’t have it in me to give a shit about her character anymore. :gonope:

Not much of a big deal. Oda having yamato saying "I would join" bunch of times and then showing a middle finger to it is bad writing. Majority of the fandom also agreed she was gonna join.
Yamato having a devil fruit tied to being wanos protector is a pretty big deal. The only other time we had such fruits was with pell and chakra royal guards of Alabasta.

Her shouting I want to join the strawhats is setting up her character arc where she realizes she needs to stay behind and fill full her role as wanos protector something Oden failed to do.

Lastly a character saying something is going to happen doesn't mean it will happen. Especially when in terms of actual build of joining the crew she had none.
