Are you sure that is the only reason she wanted to be Oden?
The flashback makes it clear that she knows full well that she's not Oden and was only trying to emulate him. However, after reading the journal was when she actually craved the adventures Oden went on.

Whose style was she supposed to copy? Oden was already dead. She still acknowledged Kaido as her father until the present arc(after Luffy frees her chains).

I think some people see her as unnecessary. You could remove her from Wano and it takes away nothing. The flying six actually have more narrative importance than her since they give the rest of the strawman fights

In my view , she has been the refreshing side of Onigashima war. Kaido's daughter who had ties to Ace, "Zoro's family" and possesses a mythical Zoan. You remove her and we lose these important connections... especially Oden's Journal

Yamato was a nobody, untill she knew oden and miraculously foung his logbook, and she assumed a basic facade of him without maturing a bit.
Her dreams are all borrowed from oden, and nothing special:
-she wants to save wano
-she wants to be free
-she wants to have adventures and get strong.
Isn't that basically Nami? I gess she'll be the next one to get CoC.

CoC users are useally distinguishable individuals from childhood, yamato doesn't fit among them in the slightest, even the way her CoC got revealed is cheap.

That's what you call character conflict, and the purpose of it is to be resolved.. If i can tell you that much and i'm not a writer, i'm pretty sure Oda already knows this very well..

Tbf it is fairly common human trait. How many sons swear to never be like their father just to end up like their father? How many girls say they hate their father only to end up married with a man who is like their father?

Oda being able to intégrate this contradictory element in a character is a good work on his part. And it is the best part of Yamato character imo.

She should unleash new attacks still, it's kinda boring if she ends up copypasting his father's moves for the most part.

Luffy learned from Garp , his brothers and animals so he is very versatile
Zoro learned in Dojo how to handle the swords.
Sanji learned from Zeff so he fight like Zeff using his legs.
it would not make sense if she could fight otherwise.

We don't have nothing support Kaido taught her to fight. We only see her interacting with Samurais. King was already at Kaido's crew. Queen also knows how to use swords.

I would love to acknowledge more of her backstory because right now the safest assumption would drive us to Yamato only witnessing two styles prominently, Kaido's and maybe Oden's.
