The last chapter split opinions because it doesnt make sense to surface readers or Odas retcon shit is absolutely bonkers. Lets revisit Zoros journey with haki.
He first learns haki when he defeats Mr.1 but at the time it is a completely different concept to Zoro. It also showcases one thing that Luffy and Zoro go beyond their power level sometimes to achieve a feat that they wont replicate again soon. The concept at the time was of BoAT which was later changed/retconned into CoA flow. There is still a chance that we might get more about BoAT that separates it from CoA.
Next we get the TS and Zoros training under Mihawk and how he learns CoO and CoA. The focus is less on being able to hurt DF users and more on protecting the blade. Then we get to Wano and Enma. For retards it should be noted that Enma sucks Ryou/Haki not CoC. With his training and Enma Zoro manages to outperform everyone on RT (reason why we still hear fanservice cope or comparing post ACoC Luffy to Zoro or chalking up the feats to peak performance outlier feats). For the SN at RT Zoro is the hakiman for he accomplishes feats with CoA that seem hard to accept even now. Imagine blocking the attack of two Yonkos with just CoA or cutting Kaido when no other SN can really damage him or scarring Kaido (something so controversial many people still say it has ACoC even though it has zero indicator of ACoC).
Then we get to Zoro unlocking ACoC against King and it seemed that Zoro indeed learned that he had CoC, there is the stupid gag for him but he knew what Kaido said to him and then to Luffy. Then we see the zzzt and big lightning on the weapon before the attack for his attacks on King. Bird Dance specially had that lightning only effect. Then we get to EH and there is little clear indication of CoC usage by Luffy and Zoro. The only times for Zoro were in his finsiher against Lucci and the clash against Nasujuro. It seemed that Zoro had indeed reached the next level if he can one shot Lucci or clash equally with Nasjuro. Then we get to Elbaf and we see Gaban commenting on Zoros CoC and him being quite at ease with it and Luffy commenting that CoC is oozing off him. And then the stupid gag comes back.
So until last chapter it seemed that Zoro can conciously use ACoC but he doesnt know it because we saw him use multiple high level attacks since that convo with Gaban and there was no indication that Zoro didnt know what was ACoC. He used it on DR giants, against Imu and against Sommers too. So then why did he try to infuse ACoC in last chapter.
I think the answer is simple. Zoro is the ultimate hakiman. We got used to ACoC feats of other people and we thought that Zoros ACoC use was similar. The lightning trails on KoH DD against King was one of the biggest in the series. Zoro one shotting Lucci with those was similar (not equal, dont piss your pants) to Kaidos TB on Act 1 Luffy or Shanks DD on Kidd. But we forgot that Zoros haki feats are tiers above his contemporaries. The other SN shat their pants while Zoro blocked alone, even if they combined they wouldnt be able to match Zoros block, at least the Admirals blocked WBs attack equally.
So far Zoro has been using ACoC thinking it is just CoA or haki in general. He doesnt specifically know what is CoC since he never conciously used it. As such he is not controlling it and thats why it is oozing off him. Now that he learns what ACoC actually is his efficiency and AP will skyrocket. Where he was leaking it everywhere now it will be concetrated into the desired point. Zoros bad usage is equal to the handful of the very strongest, his good usage will be a tier above where he will be among the very very strongest and after that he will be the very very very strongest.
