Characters can have better endurance than luffy. If someone takes thunder bagua that isn't bad writing that's a feat for that character. Only way it's bad writing is if you believe luffy has the best endurance of any character in the alliance so any attack that beat him no other character can take. That's flawed thinking since you nor anyone even knows most of the characters endurance as they haven't show cased it.

Wait so Zoro tanks 3 TB if he’s protecting someone he cares about but Luffy in gear 4 can’t tank 1 TB when he wants to protect someone he cares about.( his entire crew in this case).

It's not ridiculous according to his fans. Zoro is already that strong, no contender for Zoro, he always held back, ZKK. Banzai

Only top top tier can just take a direct hit from Kaido with Thunder Bagua and still be able to fight at the same level. If you tank, you resist to the damage, your fight won't be changed, if not, you cannot tank, even if you stay conscious.
So, I think that only Luffy and Zoro, only at the climax of the battle, could tank the TB, before the finishing blow, just like Luffy resisted the second and third Rokuogan (but not the first one), cause its a matter of plot and tension.
Until that moment, they will dodge or counterattack or be taken down, cause Imho that's the only coherent way of writing the fight and depicting Kaido feature attack, for what we've seen so long.

And no, even Jimbe or Raid Sanji won't last against it, if directly hit (see Jimbe vs Mama or Akainu, when unable to block, he was koed by Magma-boy)
