Character Discussion Zoro vs. Sanji: Who got more W's through proving their haters wrong?

Zoro gets more Ws than any other character in Op. That's his character appeal.

Oda designs each of the SHs to have certain attributes which appeal to fans. Chopper is cute, Nami and Robin are hot, Usopp and Brook are goofy, ect.
Zoro's character appeal is that he's a badass. Luffy can be a badass, but Oda never pushes this attribute for Luffy in the same way he does for zoro.

As a result, Oda basically bends the plot in order to protect zoro's image. This is why zoro always fights the 2nd strongest and if he does fight the strongest, its only a brief interaction. Tell me, why did zoro never have a full 1v1 against kaido like Luffy or yamato? Why did Kaido never use ACoC against Zoro? Because if Oda did that, zoro would get destroyed and it would ruin the image he built up for zoro. As a guy who never loses.

When zoro does take an "L", Oda will always frame it in such a way that it makes zoro look like a badass.
  • Zoro passes out after being stabbed by Kamazou---> its revealed that kamazou is actually killer, meaning that zoro basically mid diffed a supernova that fans assumed would be his rival
  • Zoro having all his bones broken and being near death on the rooftop---> blocking an island busting attack from Kaido and big mom and subsequently awakening ACoC and scarring kaido
It isn't that zoro is incapable of taking Ls. Oda could have easily had Zoro get his teeth knocked in if he encountered Kaido in act 1. But Oda would never do that because it would break Zoro's image.

If I had to compare Zoro to a cinema character I would suggest Rocky Balboa.

Always getting up no matter how hard he is hit and striving towards his fighting goal.
