Oda simply isn't capable of writing a character as complex as guts but Pre TS Zoro is the best work Oda has done.

I am sure most people won't consider Luffy to be badass because of his goofy nature and childlike attitude....but he is one of the edgy characters once he becomes serious and has many badass moments....I voted for others whom I considered badass along with Luffy, however I will post most of the badass moments of Luffy as they are subtle....

1) Emphasizing to Nami about what it means to go against pirates by putting the life on the line
2) Putting hat on Nami and destroying the room that Nami stayed in arlong park
3) Smiling while he was about to be executed by Buggy in Logue town..
4) Emphasizing the significance of pirate flag in chopper arc...
5) Hitting Vivi and emphasized the main issue...
6) Asking Usopp to shoot the government flag...
7) Introducing himself to WB...
8) Facing three admirals....
9) Arriving at Saboady post-TS....
10) Punching a Celestal dragon
11) G4...
12) Challenging BigMom
13) Chapter 949.....

WB without a question. the guy never gave a single damn till the moment he died. showed no signs of fear. no signs of wavering will. put his family above himself. WB was such a likeable character too.

next is Zoro.
calm and reserved swordsman with decent 1 liners and the strength to back them up. kind of a low hanging fruit in terms of writing a badass.
I am glad that he also has a quirky side to offset his badassness. I dislike Sasuke style emo dudes.

Why the fixation with Pedopedo?

1. ZORO- one can't talk bout badass characters in One piece and not name Zoro- That's his single most most selling point in One piece. He is badass first mate that got badass lines.
2. Mihawk- His sitting panel with a smile while Marines are sending dozen or less battle ships his way, is no less than but being badass.
3. Shanks- 1 armed guy yet so badass. Him being light hearted and not caring even at insults, and then a complete change when it comes to his friends, makes his moments even more badass. And he literally come to stops the MF war like a boss with handful men, inviting everyone who still wants to fight to fight him and war ends. Could there be anything more badass? No.
4. The Grandold Men of One piece- WSM WB- Lmoa this single old unhealthy Men scared the shit of Onepiece world by starting MF war and then died with hundred of wounds on his body, while standing.
5. Jack. This guy was pure badass during Zou but a complete change in Wano. Dissappointed.
6. Garp- only one among the Marines who gives no shit for orders or for higher authorities and do watever he likes. This guy be simply chilling with Tea while chaos is building up between World leaders and can talk while grining bout most notorious pirates or alliance makin a comeback. Lol
7. AKAINU. Literally unstoppable guy who won't stop for nothing if he decides to come after ur ass. Scares the shit of BB pirates to a point they literally ran away just after confirming its Akainu that came on the Marine ship.
8.Luffy- usually a careless idiot, bt with most badass panels in One piece.
9. Crocodile. Need not say much bout this guy.
10. DOFFY- with most badass speeches in One piece world.
11. Kizaru. Lmoa his expressions n reactns while he is kicking at the speed of light makes him one of the Most badass characters in One Piece. The Ultimate Troller.
12. Sanji- has fare share of badass panels pre ts, some being Mr Prince or Hunter during EL. Or the most badass, his cigarette remark against Enel while ruining his plans.

There are many more. But its hard to name one. I would say btween WB or Shanks among Top tiers. And Zoro n Crocodile among others.
