Gotta be honest here, I dont care about Oden or his story at all. Not now. Oda waited too long. If it was told right after Momo talked to the prisoners in Udon, it woulda worked better. But now theres way too many big players lined up for a war in the current storyline for me to care about Oden in the past.
Fight now, story later

Hell no.
A lot of people (like me) have long waited for Oden ever since Oda's been hyping the fuck outta him.
And also it's not always about actions but story like this makes the reader know more information about Oden in the past, how the Scabbards were made, and fleshing out Oden fighting Kaido and etc.
It's very cool to see all this and get all this information just before the war and honestly even after Oden's flashback ends I doubt we'll be going straight to the "war" chapters but still building up and such (especially with the traitor situation).

Let's ignore that as of now there is no way there is going to be a war in Onigashima due to traitor plot and no ships to transport 4 thousand soldiers. Kinnemon and Co are right now on a suicidal mission and are likely to get captured/killed. Also Kid wouldn't be involved in any fight in Onigashima since he has his own plan, this war is taking place in Wano not Onigashima and it will likely start at the end of Act 3 not now.

I mean, excluding the Old Gen (Roger/Rocks/WB etc.) and the Void Century/Poneglyphs, if we only look at the arcs' flashback this is probably going to be the best ever.

Oden's FB >>>>>>>>>>>> Law, Doflamingo, Fish Queen, Sanji etc.

Still, I would skip it gladly. :kayneshrug:

So you are fine with kin'emon and the scabbards constantly crying about Oden and yet we never get to understand why they care so much?

Nahhhh the reason Oden's flashback has been staved off so long is because Oda had to set up it's importance... That's how all the flashbacks work... We see Momma's flashback when the caramel photo is destroyed, we see Katakuri's flashback when he stabs himself... We see law's when he first gets defeated by Flamingo, we see the Nolan flashback when we find Shandora in the sky, we get the Fisher tiger and otohime flashback when Hody tries to execute Neptune, and we get Robin's flashback when we reach the courthouse IN A WHOLE OTHER ARC yet Robin was kidnapped in Water seven but her flashback comes in Ennies lobby... This is how one piece always works

Now Oden is set up to have one the greatest flashbacks so his set up has to be longer... Hell just recently we just learned that Opening the borders is related to the one piece and turning the world upside down, a bit before that we learned the man cut Kaido, and before that we were still beibg introduced to the scabbards and Scabbards how's their awesome feats and loyalty to the man... Like it's andlot of set up for this man so the time spent on this should make you even more excited than any thing else IMO

Its most likely not going to be told all of it now.. at least i hope so.

Let's pray this won't last longer than 3 or 4 chapters, not that Im not interested in Oden, but there's so much stuff i want to be told about storywise that I cNt see it being all told now.. so i think we'll see it by bits

Seeing it all at once is optimal, but you are probably right that Oda will intersperse flashback with the current story.

Obviously we will not get many info related to One Piece in this flashback, that one is probably left for Act 5, when the war is over.

Imagine Oda building this particular part of the story up for almost a full decade in real time, carefully laying the groundwork and mythology around Wano/Kozuki clan (especially Oden), shaping so much of the SHP’s journey through the New World towards the events of this arc, and connecting a ton of the series’ major mysteries to the subject of this flashback...and then glossing over it in 5 chapters so we can watch Luffy lose to Kaido for the second (and maybe not final) time.

We could end up getting SO MUCH in this flashback - the formation of the Scabbards is imminent, but we could see Oden venture into the NW with Whitebeard/Roger, learn how he met Toki, watch him become shogun, see the machinations that Orochi set in motion to bring him down, and most importantly, finally be provided with the remaining crucial pieces of context we need to truly appreciate the clash between the alliances in the current storyline - and you wanna skip that? Dawg, have we been reading the same manga the last 15 years??

This should be the most consequential flashback of the series...we need this one to go long.

The recent free hate on the flashback is just ridiculous (not only this post of course)
It started right when the scabbards are in despair before the final battle and actual climax, this is likely the perfect time to show why Oden is so important and how he starts as a guy anyone would want dead to mature into a real loved leader + how much Wano changed with Orochi and Kaido taking over.

There was no way the complete flashback would happen in act 1. Starting it with Momo in Udon wouldn't make that much sense as you might think. I'm sure no one would like to see it happening during the Fire Festival and the final fights so yeah, this is the right moment.

I would skip it, because:
The Wano Arc stretched to much with unnecessary stuff. Those 50+ (not sure how much exactly) chapter could gave us much more stuff than they actually did. And after we finally got close to the climax we get a FB...and this doesn't mean the FB will skip everything what is currently happening in the real time. We will get to see, where all of the People are, how they are gonna make it to onigashima, what ships they will using, traitor, etc. There is stil much to do until we get to the climax. This FB just stretches everything more. I am not saying the FB itself is a bad Thing, no it isn't, it will help us understand more of Kinemons, Wano's etc. backstory. But Oda just stretched to much stuff, that i just already want to see something happen...and i am not THAT interested about Oden. This FB will probably take us over a month, if it will have atleast 4 chapter...1 whole month or even more, until we see the Story progressing again...
Again, it doesn't mean the FB is bad and i am gonna hate it, i just want to see the main Story finally Progressing after all the stretching.

I definitely get that your anxious to jump into war but the fans have a high expectation of Wano and it cannot be reached with a version as mundane as go to war, and the end. Story is everything in One Piece, this flashback,, the chills....the tears..the reveals we will get from this... these moments are usually what end up in most fans Top moments in OP, it's what Oda does best, telling a story.

Wano is the most mysterious island connected to the void century that we've sailed to period. Oden, Lady Toki, Whitebeard, Roger.

There is just simply too much lore, story, reveals, and epic shit from this flashback and Wano overarching story as a whole, to skip all of it and go to a war and we leave Wano, it would just be too damn underwhelming.

No rush, let's enjoy this flashback and get the most out of One Piece lore before this epic tale is over. The war will still be there waiting and will be that much greater for it.

To be honest, it is about time the audience witnesses why Oden has so many people willing to go through near impossible odds to make his goals, motivations and dreams regarding Wano happen, why so many strong individuals are so loyal to him and why two of the greatest and most infamous pirates of all time respected him enough for him to become part of their crew.

So in order for the upcoming fight to be fully understood and appreciated, we need to understand why everyone is fighting for this man’s legacy in the first place.
