why vast majority of one piece fandom don't agree with a dream like Mihawk > Shanks?
I don't know ... maybe cause Oda hyped Shanks in most epic way any manga ever hyped any character

higher importance
creating most epic moments

if there be a real poll with all the one piece fans about Shanks Vs Mihawk ... Shanks would DESTROY him ...

I dont know about your theory but my theory is that Shanks has nothing to do with Luffy combat wise.
Shanks is below Mihawk in every way, no matter what he uses, he cannot beat Mihawk.

My theory is Oda is going to advance all three Luffy hakis, no one else is story has two advanced hakis. He advanced CoO & CoA, last is CoC.
Shanks will have Adv CoC (don't know what it will look like yet) and that's how Luffy will advance his. We don't know everything there is to CoC haki or haki in general, no one can flat out claim CoC won't have an advanced level.
That's my reason why Shanks without his sword > Mihawk.

The absolute truth is that there's no definite answer, WSS title isn't as absolute as it seems since we have no idea what it's based on, WB wasn't considered the best at arm wrestling for instance and given how Mihawk is always looking for a rival or challenge it could've been obtained from a former holder.

WB weapon is not a spear.

The official translation still spells Zoro's name "l" instead of a "r" just because that's how they originally spelled it and I don't want to change it.

Shanks is a swordsman. He is stronger with a sword. Mihawk is waiting for a stronger swordsman then Shanks.

The databook states Mihawk traveled the world and challenge strong swordsman until there was none left to challenge. That tells us he wanted to be the WSS and he fought to achieve it. He just wasn't giving it because he was a strong swordsman.

There's still a lot of strong people in one piece. I believe the reason why no one has received the WSM title is because they have to prove they're the strongest. At this point in time nobody has went out to prove it
