I was having a discussion with someone yesterday where they told me that Kizaru was not trying in his duel with Rayleigh. Is this a popular opinion? Do people actually think that someone would not try fighting against the Dark King? Why would an Admiral not try their hardest on a rescue mission involving the Celestial Dragons, isn’t that their job description? And why was Kizaru so butt hurt and angry at the end of the arc that he had to capture 500 pirates to calm down if he wasn’t trying?
Can someone explain to me how Kizaru was not trying his hardest against Rayleigh, I am confused.

No you had the right points, Kizaru was trying when they fought only with swords, he did not use his full arsenal, but not trying against the dark king raah while fighting in his style which is swordsmanship you're crazy

Kizaru was trying as hard as he could given the circumstances (his allies around him), but he also wasn't going all out (no awakening, no ranged attacks), unrestricted he would do too much collateral damage.
Ranged attacks would do nothing. If Rayleigh can react to close range attacks and can react to Kizaru travelling in his light mode, then no long range attack is doing anything. And Kizaru doesn’t care about collateral damage. Dude was destroying trees for no reason and gave his nephew permission to destroy some marine battleships. Kizaru “going all out” doesn’t change any outcome, except a few more trees getting destroyed.
Kizaru tried but didn't go all out, he only used a light saber and not his other pika pika moves. There's also the fact that Kizaru could of used awakening

It would change the outcome of the fight, the point being sentemoru kuma vs SH, while kizaru stalls rayleigh enough to the point he gets tired, but unfortunately.

Ok, back to the point, all kizaru attack are light-speed
A light man who consumed the pika pika no mi - Light fruit. Kizaru can turn his body to light and can spam attacks at light speed.
Although Kizaru boasts overwhelming speed he speaks at a very comfortable/steady tone.

The anime also clarified that Oden took a quake punch way better than Akainu who was gushing his blood everywhere, and that was a way weaker version than the one that fought Kaido.
So we can say Rayleigh=Teen Marco>=Marco>=BM=Kaido>=Oden>>>>>>>Old Rayleigh >=Kizaru>=Akainu.
He obviously tried otherwise there was no reason for him to vent his rage by capturing those pirate. However, Kizaru noted himself that there's a limit to how much devastation he can cause at shabondy, so he didn't use any high end attacks.
He wasn’t holding back but he certainly wasn’t using his strongest forms like awakening and such. Kizaru was fighting Rayleigh as hard as he could fight without wiping Shabondy off of the map.
Had Kizaru used his full destructive power, Rayleigh would’ve been killed in roughly 5 minutes, but countless innocents and property would’ve been destroyed as well.
