It doesn't matter that he is fighting King, that was a plot necessity since no one else could take him out bar Zoro at the present moment.

It doesn't implicate that he is weaker than Luffy, it's a matter of casuality. Plus Zoro will likely join him soon enough.

I just skimmed through the chapter where Kaido going after Whitebeard and Shanks interfering was first mentioned and even the marine reporting it describes it as "minor clash"
