Zoro firing slashes at King is even more meaningless, King can dodge or block them just as easily if not easier than Zoro can block King's.
King has fired fire bullets as a near FREE ACTION, to block that Zoro needs to actively block, using special fire cutting technique.
King's air slashes appear more rapid fire than Zoro's too, and King can dodge in 3 dimensions, with much faster movement speed.

Can Kaido decide to drop Onigashima right now? Yes. Can Luffy stop it? No. Does that mean he cannot fight Kaido? Of course not. What does that have to do with them fighting 1v1? Literally nothing.

There's no doubt King can just fly back into the dome right now and start molesting people until Zoro runs back and keeps him busy by firing flying slashes that force King to focus on dodging instead of attacking fodders. At least until King flies somewhere else once more. Again, so what? How does that help King beat Zoro in a standard scenario? It doesn't.

And from an inverse perspective King isn't stupid, he wants to fight and kill Zoro directly 'cause he's angry that he broke his mask. Really, if you start invoking PIS why didn't Kaido just slit Luffy's throat before sending him for a swim? OP doesn't work like that.


Fact of the matter is, having the ability to fly doesn't make you automatically superior to Zoro, it is simply another skill. It sure gives you the ability to run away if you desire. But is that alone enough to defeat Zoro? Nope.

Kaido is waiting to drop it when it gets to where he wants it to be, Luffy put Momo in place to act for that contingency.
What is King's excuse?

King could, if he wanted to ensure victory in a fair 1vs1 prolong the battle to a stall attrition battle, content that his hit and run tactics would outlast Zoro's potential to counter.

Luffy fell off the island before he could and Kaido said he wanted to, that could be argued as PIS very fairly (but so could the off screening of the mysterious "Gomu gomu no what?" awakening foreshadow)
Kaido had no reason to believe Luffy had VoAT that would awaken and save himself and every reason to believe he would be lost in the middle of the ocean to drown very quickly with no hope of being found.

It gives you the ability to have battlefield control, high ground, strafing tactics etc. all which have to be switched off with PIS to make it interesting and allow Zoro to show off his CQC. You don't have to switch off half of Kaido's fight choreography to make his matchup with Luffy work.
