And Shanks has nothing to do with the WSS title, he's part of Luffy's ambition, and nothing to do with Zoro.

So Whitebeard could have beaten Roger to the one piece at that time because he had Oden? Was it that simple? Aside from Oden, WB's crew was a bunch of teenage fodder. Roger already had Rayleigh, and he still needed Oden ON TOP OF THAT to find the one piece lol.

One reason Oda has Zoro fight and defeat strong characters who aren't swordsmen is to show us strong/great swordsman are strong compared to any character regardless of fighting style.
Mihawk is the currently the WSS. That means any living swordsman or swordsman who were alive while Mihawk holds the WSS title are weaker than Mihawk.
Since Shanks is alive and a swordsman he is weaker than Mihawk. People can say Mihawk didn't fight Yonko Shanks all they want but the truth is we don't know if that is fact or not. What we do know is, Shanks is a swordsman and Mihawk is the current WSS so Mihawk is stronger.
When it comes to past and dead characters like Oden and Roger. Whether Mihawk is stronger than them depends on the level Zoro much reach to surpass Mihawk. If Zoro needs to become stronger than them to surpass Mihawk than they are weaker.
