A Kurama type of thing but only one use.
Especially if it is as powerful as Nightmare mode was.
In that case, it's going away 100%.

Imagine Luffy proceeding with Nightmare mode, lol...
Joyboy isnt necessary for Luffy to fight top tiers.
Even weaker characters than Luffy can fight top tiers.

I think Awakening is going to stay, just Joyboy consciousness will disappear.
Luffy is currently on standby, Joyboy is piloting his body for now.

It is not stated in the manga, we all just making assumptions based on the pannel saying Luffy is defeated, plus Luffy at the end with the smile dont look like Luffy, specialy due to the "nika" stuff.

I hope Luffy awoke by himself, that would feel more natural given he still is the MC. The possession stuff perhaps related to Joy Boy being cursed in the past and constituting the DF itself now pushing it to the boundaries sounds kinda meh as a scenario
