Sure it doesn't immediately disqualify Yamato, but it is weird. Especially since it worked like that for the other strawhats. Before joining the crew, they most interacted during the battle and not post battle.
Precisely why I wish Oda had introduced Yamato earlier in the arc, I imagine a few minds would be changed if she had been imprisoned in Udon, busted out of there with Luffy, then spent the following two weeks bonding with the SHP and giving them inside info on her father’s crew. Whatever the reason, he’s rushing her development in the middle of an already chaotic war, but I don’t think he would be developing her at all just to leave her behind…if the only knock against her is that she hasn’t met other protagonists because she was too busy keeping a Yonko at bay while Luffy recovered, that’s a better starting point than any other arc-exclusive ally.
Did it get explained in story or in thread?
In this thread and many like it, we’ve had plenty of discussions about Momo’s role in her recruitment; she obviously needs to be with him during this battle for protection, inspiration, the journal, and because anyone else who would realistically watch him had to get their Shueisha-mandated chapter and a half against a Beast or Big Mom Pirate. You can choose to disregard this stuff since there aren’t any panels or dialogue explicitly saying “It has to be Yamato with Momo because…” but other folks here have completely failed to catch subtext on multiple occasions and have ended up looking like assholes as a result.
Honestly that's unlikely especially with the amount of chapters dedicated to the celebration. It usually spans between 3-5 with the expections being post enies lobby and post war, both being 11 and 17 chapters respectfully. Even then the post enies lobby the party only lasted about 1 chapter. It'll be a short amount of time especially since we'll also be get updates on the outside world and the situation with the WG. Placing all of Yamato's development with the crew in the mix of all of this a bad move in my opinion. Not saying couldn't do it but he could've just had Yamato interact with the crew during the fights.
A lot can happen in a chapter or two, we’ve seen heavy lore dumps in single installments all throughout this arc and most others. The post-battle party, even if it transpires over a small number of chapters, has always brought hugely consequential events, I don’t see any reason to think that’s just gonna end after the arc where we learned more than ever before about the core mysteries of the series.
Have Yamato give it to him after the Raid. The notebook has no importance at the moment, and the secrets wouldn't be told to the audience till after the raid anyway.
I don’t know how you can read the entirety of Oden’s flashback - as told through what he wrote in the journal - and seriously say it’s not important…it inspired Momo to keep up the effort to save Wano and defeat Kaido; it also kept Yamato going for 20 years and spurred her desire to leave, so wouldn’t that be considered part of her character development that you say she isn’t getting? Moreover, we’ve not only heard and seen the secrets in it, we also learned that the biggest ones of all - details of Laugh Tale and One Piece - were ripped out before Yamato got her hands on the book, so I’m not entirely sure what else you think is being held back that we won’t learn until Kaido goes down.

Also, can we stop acting like every potential SHP has to have a fully fleshed out backstory and personality? Did we know Nami’s entire past when she first joined? Robin’s? Shit, even Franky apparently met Roger’s crew and never thought to mention it, including when they ran into Rayleigh for the first time (his second)…we theoretically know everything circumstantial that’s happened in Yamato’s past, more than most actual nakama, and there’s plenty of story left to work out all her quirks, including the ones that make her so endearing to the mongoloids who claim to hate her.
