I'm so confused, are villains not allowed to be KOed anymore? When did that stop being a thing? What happens after literally does not matter. Luffy is winning this fight lmfao

Oda can come up with any number of excuses for Kaido to not he a threat that doesn't involve death. Like what do you think is happening to Big Mom? She is also someone who doesn't accept defeat. Is she also dying?
Amnesia lol or a much better route is for pudding ability to be used on her and making her forget her bad ways ...big mom can be easily wrote out of the story ...kaido not so much just re read 795

...not since this arc had people go out of their way to say that kaido isn't going to be beaten unless his head is cut off, that he'll just keep coming back no matter what, when kaido himself even addressed it since luffy is the same way and he doesn't "lose" unless he's dead, because he can always keep coming back to inspire his followers.

you think random samurai going "if onigashima is falling kaido must be about to lose!" is fact but also think kaido essentially looking right at the reader and saying "this isnt over until im dead" is just random nonsense to ignore because it doesn't fit the agenda.
You know this was all said by swordsmen who could not defeat Kaido right? Go back and read the number of times Wiper and his skypiea tribe talked about killing Enel. Did Enel die? You have no idea what Kaido will do if he loses to Luffy.

But ok, you do you guys. Believe in whatever "agenda" you want.

I don't "need" to reread anything. I know what Kaido's theme is. The issue is, his theme is not a great predictor of his fate. You dont know what his state of mind will be after losing to Luffy. You can make any number of excuses for BM, but the only one you "want" to believe is death for Kaido because it's how you see it occurring.

Sure, maybe it happens, but even then, maybe it also doesn't happen in the way you "want" it to either lol.

sure i don't know what his state of mind will be lol but what i can tell u is as per his introduction he has been defeated 7 times an guess what he is still evil,a tyrant, never gave up on wano ... all these years and eveyone in wano sees the need to say that this fight IS NOT OVER UNTIL HIS HEAD IS TAKEN i am simply following the narrative you choose to ignore this simple statement/cannon fact plus if you can't see the difference in enel vs a yonko one of the greatest pirate needing to die then so be it lol

When does any author set up the final attack of the fight at the end of a chapter, and then begin the next chapter with a finishing blow?

Never. It doesn't happen.

Not to mention, Kaido is absolutely under no certainty being setup to lose right here. There is no desperation for the people. The fire, which was the biggest threat for those on Onigashima has all been put out, eliminating the threat to them. Luffy's punch is of no threat to the people on Onigashima, because if Momo can't move the island, then Luffy would never go through with the punch. Kaido still needs to have his flashback. Orochi and Hiyori's plot is still ongoing.

Literally nothing says Kaido loses right now. He will not lose until ALL HOPE seems lost for EVERYONE. That's how Oda structures his arcs, and restoring that hope has always been the big payoff for how Oda executes the setup for villain finally losing. He doesn't have people dancing, and laughing, and enjoying life in the background, and removes all the threats for the people in the foreground. That's never happened.

This is supposed to be a pinnacle moment in the story of Luffy bringing the dawn to the people of the Country of Wano. There is no way on God's green earth that is happening right now with how everything is currently setup.

Momo will "do his part" lol. It's been set up for 20 chapters (since 1027) and there needs to be payoff. His little flashback this chapter was him being reminded that he needs to be a man and grow up to save his country. If he doesn't move it, Luffy will destroy Onigashima

And yes, that's exactly what im saying. Luffy will out tank (survive Kaido's next/last attack) and overpower Kaido (KO kaido with his own attack), just like he does with virtually every single villain in this series. He will be the victor of his fight, just like every other time. Kaido has been written to take a beating, not to permanently take EVERY beating. Literally this chapter:

How many times does it need to be stated that Kaido losing grip on Onigashima=His defeat? This wasn't the first, or even the second time this was mentioned.

Enough with the excuses guys. Luffy isn't going to hit himself with his own fist:seriously:
Yeah it's mentioned maybe as many times as Kaido getting decapitated. They also think that Luffy winning means crashing to death. Maybe being stuck in the dome means they don't have a proper perspective on what's actually going on?

Again, what I question is how Oda will pull that off. Like if it's all next chapter to have Momo's dilemma, and then he finally moves it and Luffy punches? Because he didn't start Jet Gatling, Gomu Storm, Kong Gun, King Cobra, or any other finisher in the chapter before to succeed with it in the following chapter. That's an anticlimactic way to finish.

Watch it take the whole chapter lol. You guys are expecting this to not be dramatic and instead be immediate.

An simple hypothetical of a 17 page chapter:

- Cover story: 1 page
- Orochi trying to kill Hiyori, Denjiro cuts him down (maybe): 4 pages, 1 double spread.
- a scene of Wano's citizens looking up in the sky: 1 page.
- Kaido realizing the danger of Luffy's attack. Tells him he will put his all into the next attack. Kaido does his final "wisdom king" attack at Luffy. The clouds disspate: 4 pages, 1 double spread.
- Momo having the resolve to move the island, proceeds to do so: 3 pages, 1 double spread
- Followed by Luffy naming his attack and hitting Kaido (whos trying to defend) into Wano. The citizens witness the attack/explosion: 4 pages, 2 double spreads.

1049 will show the aftermath.

Will it happen like this exactly? Probably not. But it's not impossible to see how 1048 can probably cover most of this event

@Fn Lucci Read the above here, it's not that hard to comprehend what "could" happen (not saying it's happening, but that's my thought on it)

Whether it's impossible or not for Oda to pull it off is irrelevant. I'm talking about the entire setup here. No threat to the citizens of Wano. All the threat to the people on Onigashima has been removed. No desperation or struggle on anyone's end. Everyone on Wano is smiling, and dancing, and happy. The Samurai on Onigashima are content that even if they were to die there, Luffy is going to succeed, and the Country is as good as already saved. There is no "If Luffy doesn't win here, we are all doomed." It's pretty much, yeah we're good, Luffy's got this, and if not, Kaido himself is pretty much at his limit. Hell, the people of Wano don't even know that there is a huge battle for their freedom going on right above there heads right now. This is not how Oda structures the setup for the final boss to be taken down.

At most, I see this attack setting up Kaido's flashback, and awakening. Kaido, seems defeated, his awakening starts to kick in, and we move into his flashback.

Bro, It's been clear for months now that he's not trying include the Citizens in the capital in any danger. The "citizens" you are referring to are the 5000 samurai on Onigashima. They have struggled and beared witness to this conflict. Alabasta only included those who fought in its war, the rest evacuated Alubarna, or are we forgetting this? Did all of Water 7 go through tribulations because of CP-9?

And Hyougoro and the samurai are not clairvoyant. They do not know Momo can save the island. They believe that if Luffy wins, the island will drop and they will die.

If the punch does not knock him out, it will be a subsequent attack in the same scene or following, it's the climax and everything outside of Luffy's fight is ending or has ended. Luffy isn't losing this fight lol.

Water 7 was different, because CP-9 weren't there taking over the Country and holding them hostage. And even in an arc where the final boss wasn't a direct threat to the Country, Oda still placed the Country in danger with Aqua Laguna.

And even at the end of Enies Lobby, the Straw Hats and their allies still remained in constant danger with the Buster Call, all the way up until their escape.

Here on Wano, ALL that danger is already gone. Oda has given us plot point after plot point of "The Country and people on Onigashima is in danger.", AH! Just kidding!"

First it's, "We're going to land Onigashima on the Flower Capital."

Then it's "Wait, new plan, there are bombs in the cellar, we are going to drop Onigashima on the Flower Capital, and it will explode, killing everyone."

For Onigashima, it was "These are there Beast Pirates, you have no hope against them."

Oh wait, you defeated the Beast Pirates, "Queue Bomb scenario".

Shit, the bombs are gone? Well this ragging fire will do the trick!

God dammit, who put the fire out? OK! Let's scare the samurai by having them think they are going to fall to their deaths, the the readers will know for a concrete fact that Momo is there to save everyone on Onigashima.

The threat has lessened and lessened at literally every turn.

The attack that is going to defeat kaido will never be used as a cliffhanger chapter event.

Literally the last villain:

"But that's different cause Luffy named his attack!":seriously:

1048 could literally be about their final attacks and momo moving the island. Ain't that hard to comprehend.

The Road To Harmony
With Luffy putting Momo on the line for this task and the flying lanterns seemingly coinciding with the launch of this attack, does it make the most sense narratively and thematically for this to be the end for Kaido?

If not, what would be the deterrent for Momo or those flying lanterns to NOT have thematic or narrative relevance for Luffy's punch to miss/not put Kaido down for good, given how this event has been set up? Discuss and share your reasons for both the choices

I'm not convinced this will be the end. Luffy is seemingly putting his all into this attack, but at the same time, there wasn't this immediate sense of urgency or climax in the current proceedings before he unleashed it. Onigashima is still a ways away from the Capital, the citizen's of Wano are still completely unaware of what's happening, and most of the allies haven't converged together so that they can witness Luffy's victory. Luffy himself hasn't ever felt in danger since awakening, so this punch lacks the impact that a decisive finish would naturally possess as there wasn't that low point that preceded it. In fact, it appears as though this might be Kaido's last big resistance before the conclusion of the fight. A final show of why he is regarded as the World's Strongest Creature, as the last few chapter's were dedicated to showcasing Luffy's new abilities, where Kaido spent the majority on the defensive. It feels ripe for him to retaliate just before his defeat.

And for Momo, it doesn't look like he's totally ready to create flame clouds just yet. I think he needs an extra opportunity to get it right, which Kaido will ironically provide.

You guys are missing the point. The current sense of urgency has to do with the 5000 samurai on Onigashima not dying and leaving those in the capital uninvolved.

The opportunity where Momo will get it right is now, in this dire situation where if he doesn't, Luffy will destroy Onigashima himself, or Kaido will let the island go because it literally lopsided and he's losing his grip on it already. There is no more time.

The crazy thing is that Oda could have used this level of efficiency to wrap things up weeks ago without feeling rushed. Because we've been getting the opposite, where things have been dragged.

Is he really gonna get on track now? 1047 featured Luffy failing to do anything to Kaido, and now this next hit is a KO?
