Current Events Will Kaido be defeated from Luffy's island sized punch?

The crazy thing is that Oda could have used this level of efficiency to wrap things up weeks ago without feeling rushed. Because we've been getting the opposite, where things have been dragged.

Is he really gonna get on track now? 1047 featured Luffy failing to do anything to Kaido, and now this next hit is a KO?

Every Luffy fight "drags" though lol. Go and count it up. Virtually every fight lasts 8-12 chapters beyond the last fight (usually Zoro's, here it's Kid and Law).

And it's done to wrap up most other plotlines with it. There are clearly things he wanted to do (give more fight scenes, G5, Raizo/Water, Orochi, Momo resolve, etc).

It's only "dragging" because that's how you feel about it.

For your 2nd and 3rd points, it could be the focus of 1048. The title could be that and the chapter could mostly focus on their last attack/attacks.

I think a flashback is still likely, but it may come with Yamato at this point, or while he loses. I'm not sure. As for awakening, I think it's better to just assume we've been seeing it aleady with some attacks...

I go by how I feel with narrative and how Oda paints the narrative for expectations.

Nobody can deny that Jinbe and Franky's fights just get "cut off" by the narrative. That's literally what happens. No victory immediately after it occurs. So when that first happened, yes I was questioning it. But even I agreed with others about it potentially being shown after Robin's fight, and low and behold it did.

Queen, King and BM all went down the same chapter or the following as their "defeats", so there really wasn't a debate and the only thing I really said was we'll see what happens (if things actually lasted longer). You can see my arguments with T.D.A about Big Mom especially lol, and he denied constantly that they would beat her.

With Kaido, you can go back to the early 1040s and see me talking about Luffy losing and getting awakening. That was something I expected because 1041 has clear connections, narratively to the Gorosei freaking out about a certain devil fruit.

Then when people argued the past few weeks about how close the fight would be to finishing, I constantly said the 1049-1051 range, because Luffys fights tend to last ~10 chapters. It wasn't until this chapter that's it (to me) feels pretty clear that Oda is ending the fight, for real this time.


I only explain all of this so you get where im coming from. Trust me, I usually don't say shit without at least backing my reasoning on narrative. But if I'm wrong, I'm wrong. I've owned up on every other instance and would with this one. It's just my opinion lol

@MonsterKaido Nah, I enjoy the arc and the fight. I'm just "realistic" about my expectations. Once things start getting past the realm of possibility for me, I don't really agree with it anymore.

I don't ride or die with theories like some people here do. Mine are always changing.

Oda the troll will max make it a couple of pages in the same chapter he gets defeated(which is more than enough for him imo)

We already know he was part of Rox and how he created the beast pirates as well as how he took over Wano; I don’t think we’ll get full on details on how he spent his time upon Rock’s ship since that will be saved for later but we’ll get a couple of panels on how he first set sail and when he started to change his views on the world, maybe get a silhouetted panel with Rocks telling him smth. And the some of those pieces will be in the chapter following his defeat

1049: Luffy becomes a monster samurai and uses the blade of Onigashima to finish off Kaido on Onigashima

1051/2: Kaido awakens in the flower capital and stands up

I think Kidd will mobilize the sword. I think that small panel with Kidd this chapter was a foreshadow.

Water 7 was different, because CP-9 weren't there taking over the Country and holding them hostage. And even in an arc where the final boss wasn't a direct threat to the Country, Oda still placed the Country in danger with Aqua Laguna.

And even at the end of Enies Lobby, the Straw Hats and their allies still remained in constant danger with the Buster Call, all the way up until their escape.

Here on Wano, ALL that danger is already gone. Oda has given us plot point after plot point of "The Country and people on Onigashima is in danger.", AH! Just kidding!"

First it's, "We're going to land Onigashima on the Flower Capital."

Then it's "Wait, new plan, there are bombs in the cellar, we are going to drop Onigashima on the Flower Capital, and it will explode, killing everyone."

For Onigashima, it was "These are there Beast Pirates, you have no hope against them."

Oh wait, you defeated the Beast Pirates, "Queue Bomb scenario".

Shit, the bombs are gone? Well this ragging fire will do the trick!

God dammit, who put the fire out? OK! Let's scare the samurai by having them think they are going to fall to their deaths, the the readers will know for a concrete fact that Momo is there to save everyone on Onigashima.

The threat has lessened and lessened at literally every turn.

Most likely scenario - Punch will fuck kaido up but I still don't think it's taking Kaido down for good.

Less likely - There is another thing which can happen - Momo won't be able to take onigshima away and Kaido might take advantage of this to break free and hit Luffy

BS scenario - A yonkou going down with a giant punch with no flashback or awakening and no dedicated climax chapter despite oda clearly saying my audience won't be satisfied if Luffy will beat kaido with a stronger punch.


Luffy already has punch ready coated in air and ready to hit.

He is grabbing kaido in dragon form who is acting like sitting duck.

Momo has yet to save onigshima

And, this is how chapter ended.

So we can safely assume that next chapter momo will try to save onigshima and it will come first.

So here are my issues
1) How long oda will make Luffy hold that punch because momo definitely not saving onighsima in a flash?

And, what will kaido do during that time? Will he remain in the same position waiting for the punch?

2)Even if I assume that Luffy somehow will hold punch until Momo saves the island, then when he is about to hit kaido, people expect suddenly kaido will break free and will use his 5th attack? 🤦

3)Kaido flashback hasn't happened yet


4) Imo Luffy's major fights always ended with Luffy on verge of collapsing and then landing final blow.

Luffy vs Croc - Luffy punch collided with croc attack followed by gattling

Luffy vs Lucci - Luffy was totally down then get up and was about to collapse again but launched jet gattling

Luffy vs kata - snakeman vs kata for whole chapter before both landed final attack

Don't see this fight ending with that big punch. Either kaido will tank it or most likely Kaido will be fucked but will rise again

Oda is recycling every fight he has ever done in this Vs.
Unpopular Opinion, it would actually be better for Luffy to punch Kaido through Onigashima. Much more impact in terms of damage and also the impact on Panel would be intense. Momo Law and the rest of the supporting cast can then concentrate on saving the fucked up island and the people.

The opportunity where Momo will get it right is now, in this dire situation where if he doesn't, Luffy will destroy Onigashima himself, or Kaido will let the island go because it literally lopsided and he's losing his grip on it already. There is no more time.

That last cliffhanger instantly reminded me of when Luffy unleashed Gear 3 on Lucci for the first time, and not just because they involved large fists.

What @Paperchampion23 says could happen but i am leaning towards Kaido involving the Citizens of Wano. There is a Panel of Kaido calling out the Wano Citizens for giving up and being spineless.

I think in his statement he called out the Samurai for throwing away everything for a glory death and the Citizens who just accepted their fate. Will this be brought up? I think Oda is setting it up ever since The Scabbards March towards Onigashima by showing us how Wano's Citizens feel. Isn't that what happens every arc?

Now let's assume that Luffy finally hits that punch at the end of chapter 1048 setting kaido for defeat in Chapter 1049.


So you really expect from Oda in chapter 1048 to make Luffy hold that punch for whole chapter while kaido being a sitting duck or having flashbacks only to use his final attack just before luffy is about to hit that punch to cause Kaido defeat in chapter 1049?


This doesn't sound like climax chapter Luffy fight gets.


Heck, Sanji vs queen had better climax than this

That punch from Luffy is Oda's way to move forward to Kaido awakening.



Awakening takes a toll. Kaido is fighting for so long and with everyone and he is also carrying Onighshima.


Lifting Onigshima for this long definitely will require haki and immense strength.


If momo will take over lifting onigshima then kaido will have his haki and strength restored to some extent which he can then muster to sustain awakening.
