Rules Kingdom General Discussion

@MarineHQ @Fleet Admiral Lee Hung

About Ousen admitting Riboku having superior position while both of them employing similar strategies is just for the situation in the battlefield where it was Ousen who lost 2 of his generals first.

It doesn't mean he is admitting that he is inferior to Riboku as commander or strategist. He clearly said : "neither of us played any larger part in swaying the scale". This here already proved as a strategist or commander both were equal but Riboku got situational advantage which gave him superior position in battlefield in the beginning.

But remember it was Ousen who made Riboku believing that the whole battle is going according to there planned strategies but the one who was controlling even Riboku as his own pawn (that is even making opposition to move according to his own wishes) was Ousen. Here :

- Riboku said they hadn't gave any reinforcements since ninth day because if they chipped down there own numbers than Ousen would be taking immediate advantage of the situation.
- on the thirteenth day it was again said by Riboku and his men that, they stopped sending reinforcements after seeing Zhao getting pushed because of the pressure Ousen is exerting by coming close to there HQ.
- about Ousen not sending reinforcements, reason mentioned below but that is according to his plan as well.

Most important point

- Ousen's calculative timing on the destruction of Gyou's food stock. The timing was crucial thing as not only by then Qin's right wing pushed back Zhao but also had removed CGR and Riboku was only planned the strategies in the way of prolonging the war and destroy there food and morale. But Ousen from the night of thirteenth day made Riboku to running out time while in panic as well who got his all planned strategies wasted.
- crushing Zhao in central battlefield and making Riboku abandoning the ground with planning that he can still starve out Qin army in Gyou.
- lastly the food supply through a route which was even out of Riboku’s expectations.

Now for all those who are complaining that Ousen did nothing and waited for right wing to do all the things but remember Denrimi already stated that everything was happening according to Ousen's calculations and that includes even the awakening of two units or where Riboku going to panic or whatever he can't even think of to counter.

Now the point left above. Neither of the commanders send reinforcements, but OuHon did mention that sending any general to take over the command of the wing is quite easy for Ousen as there are numerous talented generals working under him. So it is not like he wasn't doing anything but it is only his calculations which were impeccable. He only lost once in this game with Riboku where opening initiative went with Riboku by slaying Makao and that was thing mentioned by Ousen.

@MarineHQ I'm not shitting on Riboku too much but it is only when people put Riboku above all and that is even when he lost coalition with double of the army and later at Sai he couldn't even capture a city in 7 or 8 days where no capable general was present or even army but sir Riboku wanted to move with caution even knowing such things.

Later at Shukai plains he lost even after having all the advantages but people still believes Riboku was superior but lost to young trios presence. Lol

@SakazOuki did i miss anything up there !?

Well said, I'm planning on creating an Ousen analysis thread but from the top of my mind, Mouten and Shin's transformation was inspired by Ousen. Mouten for example was immediately promoted to General after the first day. People tend to forget that Ousen's strongest ability is getting a read on people

There's also the difference in quality generals. Bananji, Gyou'un and Chougaryuu on the left wing, Kisui and Batei on the right and Houken camping on Riboku's HQ.

And lastly Riboku's stunt on Makou being one of the riskiest moves ever done in the manga

There's also another way to clarify this inferiority thing. If Ousen had accepted that he's inferior to Riboku than he won't have tried to recruit him. Who wants to take an underling from enemy side who can actually outsmart him.... lol

, while also pointing out that had Riboku not been betrayed by his own state, he likely would’ve stopped the Qi reinforcements from reaching Gyou
No matter how you see it but the moment Riboku realized it was the same moment last cart got inside the city. Also Gyou is so big city that neither Riboku can make full encirclement nor he can see through blind side otherwise Kaine would have see those cart entering the city or other armies station towards east of the Gyou (as Riboku placed armies towards west, north and slightly east of the Gyou).

Also the moment Riboku realized supplies through Qi, was the same time as Gyou started receiving the cart. Even if he was present there, all he could do was seeing them entering the Gyou coz till the time they could gather the whole army, it would be too late. So situation again would be no different.

You forgot to mention veteran Generals like KinMou, EralRai and EarlKei. None of them were weak or just average generals. Far better than Heki (jk).

Also if there wasn't Houken, who dropped out of nowhere on the 13th day, Riboku would be lying there dead. Shiryuu and Shin would’ve finished him easily.

Neither Riboku himself nor assistance from the Batei with army were able to stop advancement of Ousen's army with Red Crane formation. Riboku was totally incapable either directing or defending or countering the situation at that moment. He long prepared for escaping the field. Lol

I said from enemy side.

If Ousen felt he's inferior than he definitely won't be approaching to recruit someone who's loyal to his state and is currently the main enemy and has brain working better than him. Lol

Ousen knows how to control an underling like Riboku that's why tried to recruit him. Lol
Nah, bullshit lol. Ousen would shit himself if he gained a subordinate as strong as Riboku, it has nothing to do with him feeling superior when he outright admitted that Riboku used superior tactics to him at Shukai Plains.

Recruiting happened before the part where Ousen saying Riboku was superior.
When he tried to recruit Riboku logically he didn't know yet Riboku's real strength. Even when he said Riboku's tactic was superior, turned out by that moment he even still didn't know Riboku's real strength, because recently in chapter 738 Ousen literally said once again "We underestimated Riboku too much".

when he outright admitted that Riboku used superior tactics to him at Shukai Plains.
LMAO. Really Superior tactics. Read it again as both used similar tactics but Riboku just has situational advantage as he succeeded in removing generals first.

Ousen won't be saying but who has more advantage afterwards !? Ousen. Because in the left when Makou died he placed Mouten as commander there and than stalemate(Riboku lost his advantage). Later when Riboku sent Gyou'un to right to get upper hand there, Ousen sent HSU. Ousen clearly calculated that in this battlefield HSU going to awaken (main army of the wing to affect the results). Denrimi already stated that everything was under Ousen's calculations.

Now see the results :

- Left wing in stalemate.
- Right wing, Qin killed three generals and lost one while pushed them in line to central base or to say even destroyed them (Banaji fled to central).
- With Gyou's supplies destruction move, made Riboku running out of the time. This is the turning point of the war.
- In face to face confrontation, made Riboku helpless to even counter or defend against Ousen's move.

Even here Riboku has all the advantages. More men, 4 generals and another GG level martial beast who appeared out of no where. But Riboku remains helpless.

Ousen was inferior in opening situation of the battle (which only he accepted) but afterwards Riboku wasn't ever close to him (compare the results) as after that they started losing generals as well as battle grounds, even himself.

Recruiting happened before the part where Ousen saying Riboku was superior.
When he tried to recruit Riboku logically he didn't know yet Riboku's real strength. Even when he said Riboku's tactic was superior, turned out by that moment he even still didn't know Riboku's real strength,
Nahh. Riboku played with everything he got in Shukai Plains and he has all the advantages as well.

Also read those dialogues again and you'll understand Ousen only meant with situational advantage in the beginning which was held by Riboku.

Ousen beat him on large scale battlefield as well as in direct confrontation fair and square.

Riboku wanted to prolong the battle on 13th day and defeat them by starvation while Ousen made him running out of time on 13th night by destroying Gyou's food stock.

Clear mention of superiority/inferiority made by Hara :

- Riboku accepting inferiority to Renpa.
- Riboku accepting Kanki might be the only one capable of killing him on battlefield.

@Topi Jerami Ousen did warn Kanki about Riboku or his traps in the north but Kanki’s warfare is something which is beyond the understanding of Riboku or Ousen, and look here Riboku almost losing his life at the hands of Kanki.

While Riboku already said himself that if Ousen would be coming himself to the north than he would have smelled the traps laid by him there and he would have taken different approach.

So it's not like here it is Riboku's full strength while in Shukai Plains it was something else. What turned the results in Shukai Plains was Ousen's move on Gyou and made Riboku suddenly throwing away his planned strategy and moving offensively but failed. So everything taking place there was going according to Ousen's plan.

Ri Boku outperformed Ou Sen at Shukai, but he was supposed to. The campaign was being fought on his turf, so of course he had many advantages despite the Qin catching him off guard initially when they took Retsubi. That said, while I believe Ri Boku is better than Ou Sen, I don't think outperforming him at Shukai is definitive evidence of that.

Ou Sen basically strategised his way to achieving the unachievable: defeating Ri Boku in his own backyard without a supply line and before running out of food. This was an SSS-rank difficulty endeavor, which came down to the wire, yes, but by all rights Ou Sen should have lost. And he would have but for the purpose of drama and narrative: that of the young, heroic commanders of Qin rising to the occasion, awakening their units and the vision of true Great Generals along the way.

Ou Sen was never meant to beat Ri Boku alone. It was never even supposed to come down to just the 6GGs. The prelude to the Western Zhao Invasion explicitly laid down the expectations of the Q3 to do exactly what they did at Shukai. That was why Ei Sei met with them before they set out.

I believe Hara has yet to give us a bout between Ri Boku and Ou Sen that fought on even ground. Perhaps we will still get to see such a battle yet.

Bananji had Ousen beat, but that was ruined by C+G ignoring Bananji's orders (which woulda been from Riboku) to just block off that side so Bananji could do his thing.
Wasn't CGR already dead when BNJ wanted to retreat and Gyou'Un ignored him?

After they took out CGR they got back to battlefield and started really doing damage, which is why BNJ wanted to fall back.

I might need to revisit that battle but that's how I remember it.

Your thoughts on Riboku's performance against Ouki or Gekishin or Duke Hyou or Ousen if there was no Houken or anyone like him in his army or aid in every encounter of Riboku with these above mentioned men....

For example, if there wasn't any Houken but Riboku lured Ouki to that bell shaped mountain and trapped him there while his army still making that surprise entry, than would Riboku still had won or Ouki would've died ?

1) For Ouki, if Riboku didn't have access to Houken then he wouldn't have even bothered. He recruited Houken for that battle for a reason. Lol.

2) Gekishin probably would have died though who knows, maybe Riboku brought Houken out for that battle for a reason too. Lol.

3) Duke Hyou would have died, no questions asked. He had like a dozen men when he broke into Riboku's HQ and unlike Gokei, Riboku isn't compelled by a personality flaw that would force him to suicidally engage the Duke in a duel. Hyou gets dog piled by thousands of Zhao troops.

4) No difference here. Riboku would have just retreated off of the battlefield slightly sooner than he did in canon.

I already talked about this in my Kanki thread.

Against Ouki, well Riboku may have very well been defeated if not for Houken, or at very least Ouki would’ve absolutely crushed Chousou’s meager formation long before Riboku’s cavalry were able to pin him into a death trap. And if that happened..man. It would be a battle to see, Riboku would’ve probably lost as Riboku excels at strategic warfare and executing intricate planning in advance, in terms of plains warfare Riboku is undeniably inferior to Ouki.

Against Gekishin, Riboku could’ve just retreated and circled around to his reinforcements while Gekishin chased him and Riboku slowly widdled him down.

Against Duke Hyou, Riboku had 40K elites while Duke Hyou had a few hundred men, Riboku could’ve just again retreated and Duke Hyou would’ve been windled down and defeated.

Against Ousen, well Riboku ultimately had to retreat even with Houken’s help so the same would’ve likely happened but faster without Houken lol. But the battle still progresses the same way since Houken was not at all a factor until the literal last moments of the battle.

1.) Ouki would've won most likely or both armies would've disengaged as the Zhao can't get a safe Victory and secure Ouki's death which was the main objective of that war, and for that, Houken was absolutely crucial.

The Ouki army would've rolled over Zhao's HQ long before Riboku came in, and then, it would've been an open battle but since Moubu, Ouki and Tou are together, not even Riboku's elite army could've handled that.

2 and 3.) Riboku would've crushed both Gekishin and Duke Hyou.

4.) Would've ended the same. Houken didn't add anything but drop Zhao's morale by dying.

@Shanks So basically (with Ouki), you're putting the same scenario - the Ouki army cornered by Riboku that way and everything else but no presence of Houken. Right?

When Riboku arrived, he had 40,000 soldiers against Ouki's 6,000. A pretty crazy difference. It's worth mentioning that with Ouki out of the battle, it became a quest for everyone on just on how to possibly get out of that death trap.
And they did get out but...Riboku already knew that Ouki was on his last legs and Ouki's death was his objective.

Riboku gets asked why they aren't committing their entire forces and about the possibility of Ouki escaping. But Riboku already knows Ouki is on his last legs and has already achieved his objective. Thus, he wants to avoid sacrificing any more soldiers needlessy.

And once again states what the objective was:

Ouki's death, not the annihilation of his army. He then declare the ends of the battle.

Now in @Shanks 's scenario Ouki was still alive so Riboku would actually have to do something to kill him there, yes. And a mind of his caliber would have had almost 7 times his troops.

@Fleet Admiral Lee Hung Even with Ouki alive and all the other commanders (Tou, Moubu though very tired - Ouki had just saved him from a death blow - Ouki's vassals), Kyoukai, Shin...this situation looks very brutal to me.

Moubu and Tou don't make an entire army, didn't they had farmer's pretty much for that battle or am I remembering wrong

@Owl Ki @Jailer @MarineHQ @Fleet Admiral Lee Hung

1- just like Major and MarineHQ said, Ouki would have crushed both ChouSha and Riboku at the same time. ChouSha was already finished before the show began that time while Riboku can't handle in anyway the brute force led by MouBu Ouki and Tou along with there core army. Even with his fastest steed he would be trapped by Ouki from three sides with the assistance of MouBu and Tou.

2- Aren't you all underestimating Gekishin's core army and there steed as well coz they were similar to Zhao's northern steed in speed. I can't see either Riboku being able to lure away Gekishin or able flee from there. Though can't assume about Gekishin's martial strength coz he was around 70 years old as well (while it is just around the same time Riboku toyed with Shin). @Owl Ki his stats are revealing strength at 90. Same as SHK.
:usoprice:

3- as for Duke's case, i agree his chances of surviving are low. Riboku can retreat continuously while in such narrow path, he can't survive against army of 30K. Though weren't they just the force of Zhao only while elites arrived 2 or 3 days later than that moment.

4- If there ain't any Houken than Shiryuu would've easily blocked left side of Riboku. It was Houken which made her retreat. Even if Riboku wants to escape from the right for Gyou than HSU would have secured that exit route. While if he took left side than Shiryuu was approaching from there. Escaping won't be that easy. Or yeah he would have Kantan's side left (exactly the rear of Riboku) but he can't ignore Gyou's situation.

If Houken wasn't present there than only MouBu was in bad shape but didn't looks that much tired (though condition of his steed was pretty poor or did it had died there !) while Tou and Ouki looked quite fresh there.

So these three together with there core army (even of 1000) can destroy a fresh army's HQ with brute force alone. I remember Tou and MouBu did destroy Riboku's formation before Riboku ordered to ignore them and taking the retreat.
