Blackbeard is a loses the battle but wins the war type of character. He doesn't walk out looking like a God but he almost always walks out with a big W, so maybe he gets the RP and bails without beating Law.

Everyone expects BB to wash Law so Oda will make Law hold his ground. If that happens Law is a solid Top Tier and there's no way around it.

To be Luffy's rival, you gotta fail because Luffy fails too.
Look at Kidd, look at Buggy. True rivals, full of failures.

I don't mind Teach still growing in strength and not decimating everybody he faces right now. Dude is pretty cautious so I wouldn't be surprised if some stuff gets in the way of him finishing off Law like the situation back at Amazon Lily. I also think Law might solidfy himself as a top-tier if he continues on doing well against Teach so either way, I'm fine.

Teach vs Law, Teach vs Garp, Teach vs Shanks, I think he'll have ample opportunity to prove himself and grow if need be. I'm curious to see when he'll gain a third fruit if so. He'll be alright, he'll still probably wind up Luffy's greatest rival but Kid and Law are still competitors so I expect Oda to respect them as well.
