Alright, so I just finished the Uryu arc, and this was certainly better than the Don Kanonji arc which was just complete crap, but there are still plenty of things I don’t understand about the whole Quincy vs Soul Reaper thing.

For one, why would a non-soul equilibrium between the Soul Society and Earth threaten the entire universe? Unless Bleach is about to introduce aliens, Earth is just one remote planet in an infinitely vast universe, which would mean that all souls should be concentrated on earth right? Not sure why earth is viewed by Titty as being significant enough to threaten the entire universe if it’s “soul equilibrium” which wasn’t explained gets thrown off.

For two, why exactly do the Soul Reapers need the Quincies to fight Hollows? Uryu’s master seemed like he fought for this ideal for his whole life, but why exactly are Quincies needed? Why can’t Quincies just act like the Kisume gang (or whatever his name is), who are clearly allies of the Soul Reapers but not actual Quincies? If Uryu wants to dedicate himself to fighting Hollows, he doesn’t have to ally himself with the Quincies…even Uryu and his master agreed that Soul Reapers were on the right side in the conflict vs the Quincies, so why exactly must they remain Quincies? I don’t think this was explained and I just found myself confused as to why this was happening.

And now of course the Tweenagers are getting Powerups, which fuck it, I’m not even going to complain I guess. Up until now Inoue’s only character traits were “boobs” and “I love Ichigo” so I guess making her actually able to fight Hollows is an improvement.

And as for Uryu, disregarding the unexplained plot hole in his ideology that I discussed above, he was a pretty decent character. Nothing amazing but better than 99% of Bleach characters I’ve met so far I guess. I suppose I might consider him “my favorite Bleach character” as of now but that’s like winning a race with no competition.

And once again, Hollows just pose no threat to anyone who even has a novice power to combat them, even Chad and Inoue with no experience pretty easily swept up the Hollows that they were facing. I thought with Menos or whatever we would finally meet a Hollow that showed us how dangerous these spirits can be, but the thing retreated the second it suffered some damage.

So I would give the Uryu arc, idk. Like a generous C+. A step up from the Kanonji arc to be sure but still a barely passing arc.

Yeah, looking back at my old Discord post, I didn't care much for Uryu when I first met him (or care for him at any point afterwards either).

Anyway, Earth is seemingly the only planet with life in the Bleach universe, so I guess that is why it is so important regarding the whole soul equilibrium situation since there literally isn't anywhere else.

Hmm, potentially missed opportunity there. Kubo could have had sentient life from elsewhere in the universe. Oh well. Lol.

If I recall, the Quincies were pissed because the Reapers were too slow to respond to Hollow incidents since they had to travel from the Soul Society to Earth. The Quincies took action themselves but since their tactics completely destroy souls instead of sending them to be recycled by the Soul Society, the Shinigami were pissed in return.

So I think Uryu's master wanted Quincies to work with Reapers by containing Hollow incidents until a Shinigami came to deal with the Hollow and send the soul to the Soul Society. That way the universe wouldn't be destabilised and Shinigami/Quincies could be allies.

Don't worry, only Chad and Orihime get power ups so you won't see generic tomboy, FemboyMilfLover69 or Lesbian of the Restraining Order get power ups too. Lol.

As for regular Hollows, they peaked at Grand Fisher. :catsweat:

Lmfaooo, that’s a great point.

Uryu: “let’s complete this arc by showing my ideal in action, by proving that Quincies and Soul Reapers can work together successfully”

Titty: “ICHIGO INFINITE POWER GO BRRRRR”

Well why does Uryu need to be a Quincy? Why can’t he be like the Kisume gang who are neither Quincies nor Soul Reapers?

Are Quincies born? If they are, then the whole plot about Reapers exterminating the Quincies is a lie. Idk, shit was just not explained very clearly.

Quincy is like a clan/bloodline, he can't not be a Quincy lol. Its kinda like the Uchiha in Naruto, Sasuke can't not be one.

:milaugh::milaugh::milaugh:

Indeed, all that talk of working together and the Soul Reapers end up doing everything by themselves. All Uryu did was create the cock up situation in the first place which is exactly why Shinigami dislike Quincies to begin with.

Some of these are more future event stuff. Kisuke Urahara's relationship with the Soul Society gets explored a little further on.

Quincies don't have their history explored until the last arc but yeah, Quincies are born. It is a bloodline inherited power. So Uryu cannot choose to not be a Quincy since being a Quincy isn't a question of allegiance or choice, it is about what that person fundamentally is.

Uryu can no more choose to not be a Quincy than Goku could choose to not be a Saiyan.

I dont recall if they mention it there in that arc but yes the SR did exterminate them. there are more explanations to come regarding this matter though.

Main gripe with Bleach is the under utilization of side characters tbh, it does get better over time for some of them but Kubo has been shown to shit on the themes he's trying to present multiple times.

Okay so either I speedread that being a Quincy is a bloodline thing, or Titty just didn’t explain that lol. Makes sense enough I guess.

Yeah, the side cast is the best part of Bleach. Whenever we see interactions between characters that aren't the protagonist or the main antagonist, that is when Bleach shines most.

Kenpachi vs Tosen. Komamura vs Tosen. Kenpachi vs Unohana. Soi Fon and Hachigen vs Barragan (my fav fight btw). Izuru dealing with his loyalties during the Soul Society Arc. These are a few off of the top of my head but you get the gist. Lol.

That said, the execution of side characters is variable. Chad used to be a favourite of mine from the early cast but the bloke got shafted hard like Yamcha. Lol. Not to mention characters with rushed subplots like Baz B or dumb codswallop like Nanao's stupid mirror sword. I really hated that thing. Lel.

I read it anyway

Yeah I’ve seen images of some of the later characters, it’s hard to believe that the same dude who drew characters like Inoue and Hideo Kojima also drew guys like this:

Honestly if Titty just wrote the tweens out of the manga entirely I would forgive him. Lol

I agree. Bleach's strongest point are the side characters (Gotei 13 characters). Whenever I hear "a manga with good side characters" I automatically think about Bleach.
The Gotei 13 characters and their interactions, to name a few: Kyoraku and Ukitake's friendship, Ikkaku being very loyal to Kenpachi to the point he's hiding his bankai, Urahara-Yoruichi-Soifon's interactions, Yachiru kept annoying Byakuya, Byakuya being a protective brother to Rukia, are well written. I think One Piece is being carried by its pre TS side characters like Buggy, Shanks, Mihawk, Smoker, Vivi and Alabasta, Crocodile etc but even then Bleach (Gotei 13) characters are more likeable than One Piece's pre TS characters.

P.s.
Chad and Yamcha are unfortunate because they were born from basically nobody. While we later know, Chad's 2 friends Ichigo and Uryu both have strong parent. Just like most other strong shonen characters have strong parents too like Naruto, Goku, Vegeta, Luffy etc.
Chad then was becoming the post TS Sanji of Bleach, yet then Sanji is saved by his family's bloodline too. Vinsmoke Sanji > Chad ~ just Sanji.

I read it anyway

Only Lee should spoil Lee. :myman:

Yeah, the feckin teenagers/high school/regular world part of the Bleach is the absolute worst part of the manga.

Kubo has this entire world set in a different realm and the reader cannot ever get to actually explore this realm properly because they are stuck with Ichigo in the boring arse, regular world. Ichigo is literally a detriment to exploring the world of Bleach.

Like I said before, imagine how much different it would be if Ichigo got killed and Rukia sent him to the Soul Society.

Ichigo would be in the Rukongai. We could see the afterlife through Ichigo's experiences. He could have real motivations such as making the Rukongai a better place and becoming a Shinigami in order to secretly see his family again. Wouldn't a proactive protagonist with actual motivations from day one be nice? That almost sounds like the basis for an actual story. Lol.

Instead, we get high school and boring regular world. It is not even like JJK or MHA where the high school stuff at least informs you of how the world works. It is just a regular, feckin high school that prevents you from exploring the world you want to see.

Thanks Titty Kubo. In a world of samurai ghost busters dunking on soul consuming supernatural abominations, I really wanted to see Ichigo learn geometry. :pepeke:

Nah, I have to hard disagree on Bleach's side cast being better than One Piece's side cast. For starters, I can actually remember a good deal more of One Piece's side cast compared to Bleach's despite One Piece's side cast being significantly larger.

I can clearly remember relative nobodies like Nojiko, Chu, Nero, Cabaji, Pearl, Yama, I can even remember Chouchou the dog. Lol.

Meanwhile, I struggle to remember the Vice Captains of the Gotei 13, a few of the Arrancar and most of the Sternritters.

If I cannot remember major subordinate antagonists or right hands of the Captains then yeah, it is not the best side cast. The side cast is just comparatively the best of Bleach in regards to Bleach.

The difference between Sanji and Chad is that if you remove Sanji from One Piece then that would have major ramifications for the plot and the Straw Hats would likely be dead.

If you removed Chad from Bleach, sod all would change. For a supporting character to the protagonist, he really doesn't do much. :josad:

You should probably watch the TYBW in the anime.
I second that. The manga version is a headache.

I can remember most of the side cast of Bleach though, the distinct personalities and designs really makes it hard to forget at least the side protagonists in the Gotei 13 and Arrancars. On the other hand I’m low key starting to forget some of those One Piece characters tho names like Chu, Pearl and Yama are completely blank for me lol. Compared to other series, Bleach’s side cast ain’t punching much beyond their weight class.

Imo the worst part of Bleach is the author's habit to make the Big Bad killing his own subordinates because apparently Kubo doesn't really know or care anymore what he should do to them. Happened several times in FKT arc and TYBW arc.

Another bad part is characters explaining their abilities to their opponents. It is really dumb that it becomes a meme that I am not even mad anymore because it is hillarious.

Owl while I think you are really biased against Bleach, but your post honestly somewhat changed my mind.
Now that I think about it:
1. Yeah I realize when I think about Bleach, I kinda view it with nostalgia glass, especially about the Soul Society arc and Gotei 13 characters.
2. I don't remember much from Arrancar, Sternritter, Ichigo's high school friends or the Fullbringer too. But I can still remember the name of each Vice Captains and on which division they were.

A lot of characters I have to remember by their powers/design alone because I don't remember their actual character. Lol. Let's see...

The Arrancar I can mostly remember their names from the Top 10 (Espada) of them:
1) Starrk.
2) Barragan.
3) Harribel.
4) Ulqiorra.
5) Nnoitra.
6) Grimmjow.
Here is where I start forgetting names. Lol.
7) Science Bloke.
8) Eye Guy.
9) Jar Head (I actually like him, I just can't remember his name).
10) Yammy the Nappa Clone.
11) Mr. Perforator the Hentai Protagonist.

Outside of the Espada, I remember Shawlong cause he looked cool (here is another Dark Souls lookin boss) and D Roy (I remembered him as D Ray but recalling 75% of his name counts as a win) who I remember because...
When Rukia pretty much curbed him I thought "Hold up. She got her powers back to the same level as they were when she lost them.... How the feck did she lose to the Chapter 1 Hollow if she could dunk on an Arrancar?" :doffytroll:
All other Arrancar (the Espada subordinates) I just remember them by their design.

Whale one, Sabertooth one, Eagle one, Mammoth one etc.... Man, the Arrancar turned into a furry convention crowd.

For Vice Captains, not a chance. I remember:
1) Izuru cause he's cool.
2) Hisagi of the 69 tattoo.
3) Hanamori the Shanked.
4) Ringiku of the F Cup.
5) Chojiro of the 10 Lines of Dialogue.
6) Nanao of the Worst Fight.
Beyond that, no names, just occupations and who they were with like Mustache Macho Man of 7th Division and Lard Tub of 2nd Division. Lol.

For the Sternshitters, it is even worse. I remember most of these 30 characters through their powers/design. If I do remember any of them though, it is because I disliked them. Lol. We got:
1) Barro.
2) Gremmy.
3) Gerard.
4) Bambietta.
5) Baz B.

Beyond that, I remember abilities/designs like Big Mouth, Zombie Hoe, Cheers4Years, Split Tongue, the Nazi one (he was actually a pretty cool opponent, pity I forgot his name), Spiky Git and the JoJo lookin sassenach.

I like the Fullbringers but I forgot all their names besides Ginjo. Probably because they weren't around for long.

I forget the Vizards too. I had to look up Shinji's name after all I could remember was that it ended in "Ji".

Of course I remember my favourite character Big Balls Hachi though. :fransuper:

Beyond that, there is Big Club, Buff Bloke, Ballet Bloke and the Brat.

I even forgot Zero Squad. I only remember Ichibei the Mad Monk. :madmonk:

Other members were Mrs. Mills, Space Dandy, Afro Samurai and Handjobber.

As you can see, a lot of characters didn't leave that much of an impression on me but hey, there were still quite a few enjoyable side characters..... Even if I forget the names. :catsweat:

7) Science Bloke.
I remember him, it is Szayel Aporro the 8th
Zommari the 7th
9) Jar Head (I actually like him, I just can't remember his name).
Aaroniero the 9th
11) Mr. Perforator the Hentai Protagonist.
Do you mean Luppi, the temporary 6th Espada?
I don't remember the guy but I remember the name. Was he 1 of Barragan's lackey?
) Izuru cause he's cool.
Lol.
Lol I still remember all the Gotei 13's Vice Captains

1st Division: Chojiro Sasakibe the Thunder
2nd Division: Omaeda the fatass whom Soifon bullies
3rd Division: Izuru Kyra the sad face
4th Division: Isane Kotetsu, the sibling of 13th division seated officer
5th Division: Momo Hinamori the delusional fangirl
6th Division: Renji Abarai
7th Division: Tetsuzaemon Iba the Ikkaku's friend
8th Division: Nanao Ise
9th Division: Hisagi Shuhei the fodder
10th Division: Rangiku Matsumoto the booby
11th Division: Yachiru Kusajishi the pink haired brat
12th Division: Nemu Kurotsuchi the artificial daughter
13th Kaien Shiba the deceased one

Ikkaku is 3rd seat and Yumichika is 5th seat from 11th division.
I like the Fullbringers but I forgot all their names besides Ginjo. Probably because they weren't around for long
Yeah Fullbring arc really felt like a filler...
I remember 1 lean, white clothed guy: Tsukishima or something. Then Riruka the pink haired girl. Then that video game young boy. Then the Fullbringers also has that middle aged, iirc dark skinned auntie kinda similar to Yoruichi too.
I forget the Vizards too. I had to look up Shinji's name after all I could remember was that it ended in "Ji".
Shinji the leader
Rose
Hachigen
Love Aikawa the afro former captain
Kensei which was previous 9th Captain before Tosen
The woman who wears white and orange, who is close with Kensei
Lisa Yadomaru the girl who reads manga and wears high school uniform
Then the midget who wears red jacket and was Urahara's Vice Captain

Do you mean Luppi, the temporary 6th Espada?
Aye, that is the bloke but he will always be Mr. Perforator to me.

Here I am reading a shonen and then I am suddenly hit with this shady hentai dialogue.
Shit made me burst out laughing.
I don't remember the guy but I remember the name. Was he 1 of Barragan's lackey?
He was a subordinate of Grimmjow that went to the human world. Tall, lanky, long ponytail, serious face. His Hollow form was a medieval knight with Freddy Krueger gloves and an earwig tail hairdo.
Lol I still remember all the Gotei 13's Vice Captains

1st Division: Chojiro Sasakibe the Thunder
2nd Division: Omaeda the fatass whom Soifon bullies
3rd Division: Izuru Kyra the sad face
4th Division: Isane Kotetsu, the sibling of 13th division seated officer

13th Kaien Shiba the deceased one

Ikkaku is 3rd seat and Yumichika is 5th seat from 11th division.
Aight, I remember Renji and Yachiru but I forgot that they were Vice Captains. Lol.

Baldy and Peacock from 11th Division were cool guys.
Yeah Fullbring arc really felt like a filler...

There was also a middle aged butler guy with the Fullbringers. He had obsession with clocks or something. There was another guy with some luck based power that fought Ikkaku.

As for the Vizards, damn did I completely forget about Lisa and the other girl. I couldn't even remember that there were eight of them. I thought there was only six. :catsweat:
