First of all, our laws do have roots in brtish rule but because they actually laid down an elaborate system of laws.
Second, our constitution actually consider customs laid down in society as part of law
Values which goes back to ancient times.
Third, we have been independent since 1947 - short time and we have amended laws as our society progressed and modernised but without affecting our value system which goes back to 1000s of years back
Third, the section you mentioned got repealed and we also have an act which states " every person has right to be recognised as trans"
