Nah, not that simple. Sounds are vibrations. Earplugs my stop Apoo’s attacks that go inside the body via the ear (likely what caught Luffy, part of that detonation was internal). But the attack that hit Luffy like a punch and cut Zoro were external, not having anything to do with the ear.

Been thinking this since that shadowy figure was revealed behind Robin and Jinbe, but let's assume that the silhouette was Yamato. Do y'all think we could potentially see him being used as a hostage/bargaining chip to get back Luffy, Zoro & Kidd in the case that they get captured? Or do y'all think the SHs are a bit to pure to do that...lolz

Plus Jinbe is now part of the crew and he's willing to get his hands dirty if it'd mean it'd get shit done. For example, on WCI he decided to ally with Capone even tho he hurt Pekoms. Also, Jinbe was telling Robin that he'd like to be of some help to the alliance in someway so, yamato being used as some sort of hostage is a possibility imo but not sure Oda would have the SHs do sumin like that tho :p

Nobody seemed to mind Zoro taking King Neptune hostage and using him to negotiate with one of the princes. Nami actually wanted Zoro to demand 1B berries on top of their ship getting recoated and safe passage out of FMI.

He attacks his opponents through vibrations in the air, I doubt earplugs can protect you from that.

In Thriller Bark, Kuma was the only enemy standing. And unlike then, their current goal is to beat Kaido. Zoro and Luffy can’t afford to tire themselves out before the main battles, while alerting even more enemies. Context, such a nuisance to trolling.
