Mainly I just wasn't sure if I'd be around at the end of the game, and I wanted to make sure my vote was on someone who's posts I didn't like at the time. Pretty simple

AndI dont have a read on Melkor but even if I did scum read him I'd feel bad to lynch him day 1 2 games in a row, so I wanted to make sure it was off of him

Yes. Except I'm weirdly okay with this? Considering how D1 went, I'd rather keep around the active players and hope that they step up and D2 is a little more productive.
