Its obvious .... The story is about Luffy surpassing the old generation and going beyond what they couldn't. So of course someone who has a lethal df is going to be called that. Its like saying Sengoku or Garp but with more fire power.

And as the progression is going... Kaido lost now who even Oda wasn't "stating" that he is the strongest but using the narrative around him and used the "people around the world" in his story to call him that. It was never a fact like how the titles that WB - Mihawk - Dragon have.

The main reason the fanbase has had trouble swallowing this pill is due to disdain for the character.

You hate the guy for killing Ace, being chiefly responsible for WB’s death, annihilating Ohara, I get it. Having a “good guy” like Garp or Kuzan being stronger would give you the warm fuzzies.

What I don’t understand is why people want a supposedly Marco-level character to be the leader of the most powerful military force in the verse. It’d make for a bland story to have anyone less powerful than Akainu in such a position.

It wouldn’t make sense for Luffy to take down the marines in any other state than having the strongest ever at the top, whether this quote is verifiable or not.

And about the devil fruit 'advantage', if anyone is at a disadvantage here its Akainu. Kuzan freezes objects at unprecedented rates, and that includes molten rock like magma. Truth is they both counter each other.
