Current Events ‘Warrior God’ is a Fake Translation - Viz Official Translation is ‘Godhead’

Stephen is doing his job at translating things so that they're very clearly understandable for a western audience, even if that results in slight alterations to the original meaning in the Japanese, yes, that's been my point this entire thread.
What alterations? You really think Oda's intention was to make a title like "warrior god of finance/agriculture"?

You're telling this to someone who speaks multiple languages and has a decent grasp on Japanese even, get off your high horse and stop assuming you know more than everyone else because you simply fucking don't.
How many languages do you speak? :watchout:

Dude can't comprehend something so simple, or chooses not to cause of agenda.

ZenZu, will you ever stop ducking me in a debate? I swear, all you do is quote me with a shitty argument and then slowly fade out of the thread as I slowly tear apart your post, it's embarassing having to deal with your ass.
Stop writing filler then changing goal posts and then crying, then maybe I won't 😂

This thread is an example, Godhead is an alteration, it's completely devoid of the original meaning.

I'm really not seeing why "War God of Finance" doesn't make any sense, maybe it's just a literacy issue on your end.

Oda clearly did intend for those to be their titles given that he wrote it into the pages of his manga yes.

Two fluently and learning a third.

My guy went from "native speakers are more reliable and trustworthy than Stephen Paul the official translator for viz" to

"Stephen Paul is doing his job correctly but..but.. 🤓"

The fact that I made that much progress with you is an achievement honestly. It's as good as a concession on your initial statements.

Both of those things are true lol, native speakers such as Sandman are more reliable in my opinion because they're not obligated to westernize things, they just translate it literally and keep the original meaning.

Stephen Paul is doing his job very correctly, his job is to translate things in such a way that they're easily understandable to a western audience, it's unfortunate that that often leads to slight inaccuracy though.

This reminds me of a debate long back regarding the "Garp nearly killed Roger" mistranslation. People were showing proof that Roger did say "korosu" in that dialogue blah blah. 1:1 translation means nothing.

In this thread, they are translating "bushin" = military god/war god, but they are conveniently leaving out the of finance/agriculture part. Stephen Paul's job is to translate in such a way so that it conveys the author's intended message, he isnt supposed to do 1:1 word translation.

Ohhh, the way you said multiple languages I thought you were like those Luxembourgers who can speak like 4-5 languages

I'm really not seeing why "War God of Finance" doesn't make any sense, maybe it's just a literacy issue on your end.
How are you not seeing that? Have you ever heard "knight of agriculture" or "samurai of finance"?

Ah..so now we've backtracked from questioning the legitimacy of the official translator compared to native speakers, to nearly admitting he made the correct decision.

Great, that's good enough for me.

Exactly.

And you were accusing Stephen of altering the Japanese titles? Look at what you did 😂 What if I read it just as minister of finance, minister of agriculture instead?
I corrected my original post, no idea why my brain wrote "God of War" lol.

And no, I'm not altering shit, I'm telling you how to read their titles correctly because you're incapable of doing so.

The last part is the specific thing they're in charge of/the minister of as mentioned by Etenboby, the first part is something they all share, "War God".

Even if I overlook that you pulled out "assigned to" out of your ass, who in their right mind assigns warrior gods to lead agriculture/finance lmao?

Etenboby thinks "bushin" is their job title. Lets be real here, job titles like warrior god doesnt make sense, especially when you are in charge of agriculture or finance ministry

I dont see it tbh. WG wont have 9-10 Aokiji/Akainu level fighters on their side. How will strawhats ever win against them

@SkySanji is in his feels today because he is smart enough to know that "warrior god of agriculture/finance" doesnt make sense 😂😂 Go easy on him

smh, where do you guys get such info?
Alliance such as with RA, law, Kidd and so on

And, not everyone in navy will side with WG as well.

The translation this chapter was kinda wack. Like they called Vegapunk's weapon "Mother Frame" as opposed to "Mother Flame". Its obviously Mother Flame, not only does it just make more sense(given that its a nuke), but it ties into VP's direct statement about how fire is the source of energy.

In any case, a god is a god. Be it a warrior god or a god of finance. Don't see how this somehow helps the admirals' portrayal when they themselves acknowledge the godhood of the gorosei.

It's a title ,a direct translation is simply better . You don't just change it and even losing its purpose along the way. Oda clearly wanted to focus on them being fighters and not just political figures focused only on their field of expertise. The godhead is wrong even if it sounds right.

Unless the trivia greg is talking is about this
,and there is a reason behind his choice. He still should have put a note below it ,but Viz is so old-fashioned when it comes to One piece that the only time there was a note it was so people weren't confused about the swastika on WB's flag.
