Eh oda has allowed people to avenge their loved ones before in the manga. And since there’s someone stronger who luffy has a deep past with; oda doesn’t need to ruin kuma to hype goofy.

Regardless of strength debates between admirals and gorosei, the gorosei are a lot more important to the world of One Piece as the rulers of the world (below Imu). The first one of them going down to Kuma in the background while Luffy fights someone else would be 100% new to the story. Much more if he actually dies.

It does sound good to me, though, especially because of how Kuma already "faced" Saturn as a kid. He's also the one who killed Ginny and made Bonney sick, so Kuma does have dibs on him.

Plus they were literally trying to stop Luffy from awakening.
It would be terrible writing to have all this happen and not have Luffy get at least one or two hits in on Saturn.
