Who are the 5 strongest characters of ASOIAF?

#1
Not considering magic powers, dragons, or whatever. So you can't pick characters like Euron, Daenerys, Brynden Rivers, Jaqen H'gar, or any mythical characters of the old times (like Azor Ahai, Bloodstone Emperor, Artys Arryn, and so on)

You can consider any sort of warriors or fighters. Of course you can consider a character like Daemon Targaryen (but obviously not his Dragon).

  • Harwin Strong
  • Arthur Dayne
  • Berristan selmy
  • Daemon Blackfyre
  • Cregan Stark
  • Jamie Lannister
  • Khal Drogo (I believe he was undefeated)
  • Aemon Dragonknight
  • Robert Baratheon
  • Visenya Targaryen (in Female Category)
  • Daemon Targaryen / Aemond Targaryen
  • Gwayne corbray
Unranked.
But I believe they are a few of the strongest in verse.
It's impossible to rank these as none of them lived in the same era (a few did)

Now I'm trying to figure out who is the current strongest knight of westeros. Jaime lost his hand, Barristan is old, Loras is almost dead, Gregor is a zombie.
Lyn Corbray perhaps?

Not that I read the books, from the show I’d say
1. Selmy
2. Dayne
3. Jaime
4. Oberyn
5. Mountain
6, Robert
7. Hound

I'am with you.

Sandoq Is basically described like the Mountain, but with an actual brain, a tactical mind and on top of that a Valyrian steel curved sword.

He Is total beast.
Some early kingsguard get omitted from this convos, probably because they aren't mentioned in the main series. I mean, Pate the Woodcock should be on everyone's list on name value alone

In terms of combat prowess

1. Arthur Dayne
2. Kingslayer
3. Selmi
4. Oberyn with poisons
5. Prime Robert
6. Night Star
7. Lorass Tyrel

I don't know minor characters enough to tell, same as Blackfyres and so on

Barristan
Arthur Dayne
Jaime
Sandoq
Daemon Blackfyre/Aemon Dragon Prince

  • Khal Drogo (I believe he was undefeated)
without armor he'd be easy pickings for any other name in this list.

All time, probably:
  1. Arthur Dayne
  2. Aemon the Dragonknight
  3. Barristan Selmy
  4. Jamie Lannister
  5. Cregan Stark
Honourable mentions include Khal Drogo, Robert Baratheon, Criston Cole, Daemon Targaryen, Duncan the Tall, Lyonel Baratheon, Daemon Blackfyre, Oberyn Martell- and probably some others still.
Cregan is a good pic, he deserves to be mentioned more on these types of lists.

Maelys the Monstrous should be brought up more. He seems like the mountain on cocaine to me

out of living fighters:

Garlan Tyrell, Strongboar, Greatjon, Victorian Greyjoy, Mance(bodied Jon), Balon Swann, Hotah and maybe Lord Taryll?

He has no known scalps to his name, but β€œthe finest sword the Dragonknight faced” is top tier hype.

That’s an inspired pick, though I don’t know if much was said of Maelys’ skill with arms, so much as the monstrous strength he applied them with.

-Two-handed Jaime
-Ser Barristan
-Arthur Dayne
-Daemon Blackfyre
-Aemon the Dragonknight

Not ranked, but I feel these represent the gold standard for fighters in Westeros, imo.

Btw the living fighters, Balon Swann seem to be pretty mid. One interesting candidate is Lyn Corbray

The goats actually are Ser Boros Blount and Ser Meryn Trant

i do think Lyn is the best fighter alive, i just brought up other names that aren't usually mentioned in that conversation

true. I always found Dragonknight to be slightly overrated. He's definitely up there but his dueling accomplishments don't amaze me as much as others.

i felt like most of Cregan's "hype" comes from his ability as a commander.
He's admittingly very biased but Osgrey from Dunk and Egg put Daemon Blackfyre over Aemon.

That’s an inspired pick, though I don’t know if much what said of Maelys’ skill with arms, so much as the monstrous strength he applied them with.
true. but his strength hype is truly monstrous. he killed a horse with a single punch iirc.

Arthur, Barristan and Jaime always felt like the top 3 for me

Oberyn too maybe. He made The Mountain has bitch and would've stomped if he didn't get emotional.

Garlan Tyrell, maybe?
On the edge of the yard, a lone knight with a pair of golden roses on his shield was holding off three foes. Even as they watched, he caught one of them alongside the head, knocking him senseless. "Is that your brother?” Sansa asked.
β€œIt is, my lady,” said Ser Loras. β€œGarlan often trains against three men, or even four. In battle it is seldom one against one, he says, so he likes to be prepared.”
β€œHe must be very brave.”
β€œHe is a great knight,” Ser Loras replied. "A better sword than me, in truth, though I’m the better lance.”
