Oh, you're right! I thought you were talking about Ennies lobby. I misremembered the end of Alabasta. My bad. Still, Yamato wants to Join because Luffy is Ace's brother after 2 chapters. It looks like she and Luffy will be fighting together this arc, so they will get to know each other and the relationship will grow. The important thing right now is that even this early she wants to join. At the very least you can't deny it's a good sign.

Edit: also if she's been waiting years to join Luffy's crew, no matter what the reason is, it would be very difficult to change her mind.

If her mother is Wano's citizen that will confirm 50% of my headcanon.

And if Yamato really wants to become Oden, joining SH is not the way. She will remain in Wano and become shogun under Luffy's protection. In addition all of candidate of a woman country leader has nami's template.

If her dream changed in the end of arc I can see her joining the SH. Or at least Oda can give her another power that not based on thunder/electric thing like thunder bagua, we already have Nami and Carrot to perform such a thing. Or maybe ancient/mythical zoan df.

Yamato says here that she follows her logic (since Luffy is Ace's brother). Luffy is not the reason why she wants to join him, but her reasoning. Logic is the reason why she wants to go on Luffy's ship because he is the brother of Ace.

Here Yamato is implying that Luffy has a duty as Ace's brother to give him a ride on his ship. Yamato wants to go on the ship for the wrong reasons (not for Luffy but by simple "logic")

I didn't answer my own question. Ace is the reason why she wants to be on Luffy's ship since he is ace's brother, not Luffy is the reason. If Luffy were not the brother of Ace, she would have no reason to join him. The reason should be Luffy, not Ace. Therefore, she only wants to be on Luffy's ship for a wrong reason.

But...she was still waiting for HIM...she met Ace by chance as far as we know, and he’s the one who told her about Luffy/said he’d be coming eventually...so her encounter with Ace was random, but introducing herself to Luffy was a conscious choice...you see where I’m going with this??

Even though Ace told her about Luffy, she's just waiting for him because he's the brother of Ace. The reason remains the same. Ace is still the reason why she was waiting for luffy. That's why I don't see how Yamato's waiting for Luffy is special since Luffy isn't even the reason why she was waiting for him.

Which current Straw Hat was “waiting” for Luffy to arrive and recruit them? This logic you hold fast to doesn’t apply to any other protagonist, so why does it have to exclude Yamato from joining right away?
