College can be a rewarding experience, but it requires dedication and focus. It is important to avoid distractions and stay committed to your academic goals.
Personally, I found college to be an inefficient and costly endeavor. The emphasis on college education in the United States is exaggerated, and alternative options such as trade schools or apprenticeships may be more practical and beneficial.
🇧🇷 😃 I am from Brazil. Are you too ?
I want to become the kind of person who has a lot of fun outside. Parties at college and university are one of the experiences I want to have. I don't know if I would have an easy time dealing with the rowdy, zany aspects of parties the first time around, but when you don't know how to do something, you need to have the willpower to learn.
But I am a correct and careful person. I will be careful not to do anything wrong or indecent.
I made the decision to never drink alcohol in my life, because I know the problems it causes in the world. I will only be open to going to college and university parties whose hosts are considerate of people who don't drink alcohol.
that said, it was just his experience, yours might be different

your English is pretty good but if you do have trouble socializing , perhaps you might have an easier time if you went to Portugal instead.
I know it can be a bit tough for immigrants to adjust to the change in countries. America has a big Latino population but they’re mostly Spanish speaking.

I have extended family in Texas , Alabama and California . Honestly it depends my cousins got full schorlarship ride other had to pay from their pocket .
If you are really good in academics and sport University will love to have you .
I’d suggest you to prefer state university over private ones unless you get in MIT, CalTech , Harvard or Yale . The mega four have need blind policy .
If you are studying STEM best place on earth really US offer great education and research . There is no par really and most campus in US are diverse .
Thank you for your participation in this thread.
You gave me information I was looking for: The name and definition of the field of study that revolves around science, technology and engineering.
I enjoy using computers,so computer science is one of the things I'm thinking about studying.
I'm also interested in technology and craftsmanship,so I might consider studying STEM as well.
Can you also tell me the official name of the field of study that revolves around arts such as dancing, singing, acting and drawing ? I'm thinking about venturing into science and arts when I start my professional life. It seems I have a talent for both. From a young age, I showed an ability to research about my interests and learn about them, and also an artistic soul. When I was a child, I loved doing little artistic crafts here at home with materials that my mother brought me from the schools where she worked(She is a teacher.).

I believe there are drama school . If you have ChatGPT ask for the top school which gives you this facility .
If you want both Scoence and Arts one of my cousin did that in UCLA he minored in dramas and Biology as Majors he was interesting in drama as child . But if you plan to enter entertainment industry you should plan on moving to California there is active Latino community so you won’t have problem with language as well since you can Spanish /Portugese .
However I would suggest you have your CV , Motivational letter , IELTS for your English eligibility once that’s done speak to an admission council they will help in guiding you next steps .

😄 👍 👍 No problem, mate. The United States is not the whole world. It is the diversity of all things, including places and people, that makes the world so beautiful.
You can describe to us what your personal life on campus was like(Or is,depending on whether you've finished or are still in progress.)in your country,if you'd like. The purpose of our forum is to socialize by chatting about the things we enjoy.
I'm not from US, but I went to an american university for masters for electrical engineering few years ago.
Maybe it's because it's masters in engineering, but people generally just keep to themselves. I just had few friends there that I met in university itself, most of the friends I made in the time were the ones I met during the summer internship.
I know few of my older Colleague he is rockstar programmer works for Automobile segments . He was in Military and then joined computer programming courses after he left .
Honestly I would say it depends on company . Smaller ones don’t really care about degree .
However right now there are so many college grads recruiters are forced to use ATS to filter the basic req is college degree everywhere it’s crazy . I even recommended my Human resource team to do away with this bs because it discriminate the Job seekers in General .

Yeah, there is still a lot of hype behind college degrees, but i feel like it is fading away. People are waking up the reality of the market and superior education courses. It is just is not worth it to go to college anymore imo.

Well it depends if you are working in complex design for example designing a Vehicle Software or Autopilot for Self Driving that requires certain expertise you definitely need College degree for this .

I'm not from Amercia, never studied there.
I think you shouldn't worry about anything and approach it with an open mind - especially if you're moving to a new country and out of your comfort zone. You'll definitely have both good and bad experiences, it's just part of life.
And both will teach you really important lessons for the rest of your life.
Good luck, try to give your best at what you do!
A few years down the line, you'll be looking back at the journey and how it changed you as a person, that's worth far more than just an academic degree tbh.
How autism-friendly is the United States as a country ? Is society there kind and supportive of people like me ? Has anyone here ever met an autistic person in high school, college or university ? If so,how were they treated there ?
