Character Discussion The (Not-so) Great Debate: Did Saturn's explosives Hurt/Blow up Topman Warcury?

This is a topic that I've seen discussed a few times, I felt a proper thread was in order.

I personally think that the answer is yes, and there's a lot of obvious reasons.

First, Brogy's dialogue. "You blew them to bits". I doubt he'd be referring to Saturn and Peter's decapitated corpse(to his knowledge). Although, granted it's possible Brogy didn't see. The explosions were pretty large.

Second, I would say that zoomed in Topman face on the first page posted below is a dead give away that the move is going to deal damage. Pretty common trend in mangas/comics to feature close ups of characters before they get hammered. Saturn and Kuma is a prominent example early in the arc.

Third, the obvious one, the silhouette. I don't see why Oda would draw Topman in the same silhouette as Peter and Saturn who were definitely regenerating, if we were supposed to believe he wasn't hurt by that attack. Though I'll acknowledge that his silhouette doesn't appear that different from his regular appearance, unlike Saturn who's clearly regrowing legs. You could also argue that Oda didn't want to spoil the "reveal" of Topman's durability, but this is the guy that has shown he feels the need to spoonfeed a lot of basic concepts to his reader numerous times. Oda's not expecting his reader to make these kind of inferences lol.

Fourth, I think this clearly is Oda explaining to his readers what makes the Gorosei such terrifying. They all have access to regeneration, and no matter if they're obliterated, they'll regenerate. The glass cannon can regenerate, the sucker can regenerate, the guy who fucked up the economy can regenerate, and even the durability monster can regenerate.

thoughts? I'd be interested in hearing arguments on why Saturn didn't hurt them

I don't see it being the case for Topman. His shape looks the same, though there's that "Shunk..." sfx. HMMMM If that shit actually made Warcury regenerate... bruhh.... that's insane attack power.

only if Kaido stands completely still and doesn't dodge a very slow moving attack lol. Kaido who speed blitzed versions of Luffy who are top tiers wouldn't have issues dodging it, but we're focusing on how powerful the attack is, not how landable it is.

Saturn would win eventually, but it would be a very long fight where he'd have to regenerate several times and wait for Kaido's stamina to run out.

I think the sad part is that Saturn is probably fast af and capable of dodging a lot of shit, but literally chooses not to, just so he can make the point that insects can't do shit to them no matter how hard they try. Ugh, why did have to kill him off without showcasing his CQC.

Hopefully when the other Gorosei do showcase their proper CQC prowess, we'll get some sort of a reference to Saturn's capabilities as a fighter.

okay.... what's your point dude? Kaido fought Big Mom for 3 days straight without slipping up to our knowledge. Saturn only managed to land the eye attack on Luffy, a single blow in all of their clashes.

i'm annoyed that he didn't even use CoA infusion or CoC infusion(if he has it).

i remember everyone thought his hybrid was his full zoan form and he'd be more mobile in his hybrid...

Yea we probably won't see the Gorosei's true fighting skills until somebody figures out a way to damage them. Until then it'll be just them being lazy and tanking everything to steamroll through shi.

I think we've seen a good chunk of Nusjuro's toolkit outside of some ice powers and more high level haki, but the other 3 and Garling, Oda can do whatever he wants with them since we haven't seen their hybrids(or even fruits in Garling's case)

NGL, I'm expecting all of them to have Rokushiki. As for Nusjuro, I think he'll also have his own various sword techniques that differ in power similar to Roronoa.

i'm sure they all can use Rokushiki, but I'm only expecting Mars to show it. I can't imagine hybrid Peter having all the... well limbs to use it. Warcury will probably be slower and tanker in hybrid as well
