Imo the characters with the most wasted potential is Law and Kid

Back in Sabaody they where standing side by side with Luffy and are often shown competing with him as if they're playing in the same leagues,

Law is a D and is the only D with no real importance to the story from what we've seen so far

Luffy- The MC and the second coming of One Piece Jesus

Garp- captured by black beard pirates and will play a major role in Koby's development

Dragon- leader of the revolutionary army and the most wanted man in the world whose actions are currently putting the celestial dragons in a panic

Vivi- The descendant of Nefetari Lili, and was shown to be important enough that Cp0 tried kidnapping her and Imu was shown stabbing pictures of her

Teach- one of the primary antagonist in the story, has been responsible for many events shown and has a dicatohmy with Shanks

Law meanwhile since he was reintroduced in punk hazard never felt anything more than another strawhat the moment he left the crews presence Oda took out his crew and left him barely alive.

Kid meanwhile was said to be a conqueror but he never felt like one, Kaido just mentioned it offhandedly but he was never once shown the ability to use it and much like Law never in the series had a legimate 1 v 1

Hawkins.

Had a higher bounty than Law in Sabaody and was the supernova I was most hyped for. It seemed like he was set up to be a rival to Law on Wano, and they both had mink crewmates. Then gets defeated by Killer and maybe is dead? We barely got to see his DF or what all his tarot cards could do, especially was excited to see The World.

He should've been in the Schichibukai instead of Law.

Usopp, dude never grew a spine, even when the timeskip said he did

Sanji- I have developed a special set of skills to ignore him when he is around women in the story. literally would be my favorite character if every female interaction was removed.

Kidd- Just decides to go on a murderous rampage to start a fight with an emperor? He was fresh off of barely surviving a 2v1 with one of the other most powerful pirates on his side and thought he could take Shanks on. Not to mention he turned out to just be an arrogant dick and a literal mass murderer just like he was introduced with no development.

Seraphim- Could be removed from the story without consequence. They accomplished literally nothing except being introduced. Every plot point could have happened without them there.

Jozu- Was even brought up again by Marco and had a cool design, great power, but is nowhere to be found

Brooke- Lots of clout from Big Mom fight/poneglyph robbery but no good on screen fights

Big Mom.

Had an interesting backstory, an original goal, an interesting more mob boss mentality as a pirate, and had truly amazing potential as a fighter with her being a near-unstoppable force of nature in terms of physical abilities, very strong haki and her having one of the most original, powerful and versatile devil fruits in the world which she used with great inventivity.

Yet was handicaped and nerfed by the plot to an extreme degree to even excuse the Straw Hats + allies surviving her, and pulled through some incredibly ridiculous and cringeworthy stuff, with her never coming close to what her full power and potential should have been save for her clash with Kaido. Oda's absysmal use and treatment of her was one of the biggest factors in making Wano the disaster it was and in my disillusionment with One Piece.

Smoothie was completely wasted as well, with her having not even a fight scene, and being kept in the freezer doing nothing and having no real contribution to the plot, despite her cool design, her interesting and potentially incredibly powerful devil fruit, her most surely being an incredibly strong swordswoman and being an opportunity to finally showcase a strong female swordsman in One Piece.

It really says how wasted she is that a video game, One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4, did a far far better job at showcasing her and her powers that the manga ever has and most surely ever will.

It’s easily Kidd, maybe Mihawk and Dragon also needed more action before they become the focus.

I don’t know what you mean by Law at all, did you skip out on everything else before Egghead or what? Basically the deuteragonist for 2/3 of post-ts, got a fleshed out characterization, responsible for the defeat of 2 yonkos because he was the leader of the alliance alongside Luffy. Mastermind of Rocky Port, one of the more significant background events that transpired the more we find out about it. That event put Koby’s name on the map and elevated Blackbeard’s status fighting a former Rocks member.

He’ll obviously come back to the story as a main ally/fighter and D member when the fight with the Celestial Dragons begin. He was mentioned alongside the prominent D clan fighters (Saul and Vivi weren’t shown) in Vegapunk’s speech. There’s also that Chekhov’s gun with the immortality surgery, there’s a reason why Oda made it clear that Law escaped compared to keeping Kidd’s fate more ambiguous.

Also, Law defeated Vergo and Smoker. Two of the strongest characters in PH compared to Luffy’s fight with Caesar. He gets 1v1 wins lol

Every character that basically done nothing or received no characterization the past 1100 chapters while being introduced early. The "just wait for XY bro" is insane illiterate cope. Its like people saying gandalf doing nothing and receiving no chararacterization for the first 2 books and appearing in the last quarter of the final book would be good writing.

If we go for the opposite, as in characters that have much panel time but are disappointing for what they have:
Probably all of the supernova beside Luffy and Zoro bar Bege and Bonney. Urogoue can still be good copium

With the strawhat is kinda iffy, i dont think there is wasted potential per se as for the character as a whole but post-ts they are certain characters that just meander in their own sauce and dont progress at all or are utilized very poorly in a arc that could provide that.

If you're not paying attention maybe

Doffy told us Law's powers are the key to the treasure of Marejois, and will lead to him being the king of the world. The OP OP no mi is basically the most important DF aside the Nika fruit

it's pretty obvious that Law will be a key player vs Imu

I agree. Apoo was wasted as well, both he and Hawkins brought opportunities with them being morally gray and neutral Supernovas, as well as them having super interesting devil fruits whose potential matched Law and Kid's.

Yet both were turned into mere minions for Kaido and their abilities were wasted and they were beaten in anticlimatic fashion.

Apoo when meeting kid again:“dude chill,it was just a prank“

Law was lne of the most important characters post TS and Is related to the mystery of the D.

As of now, Kidd for sure, followed by Dragon and BM. For big character at least

I don't know what the full list of characters with wasted potential is, but I do know that number one is Kid (because during Sabaody Oda thought he would the most important supernova - except luffy and zoro, obviously - and now he is not even more important than bonney)

Retarded how a perfect opportunity to shed light on the D. family presented itself in Law vs Teach and got wasted.

Unlike Ace, Law actually had a proper understanding of the conflict between nobles and D. since his childhood, while Teach had history research as a hobby and is too knowledgeable of the world in large (knew about the OP immortality, Sulong form, Lunarians, man marked by flames etc...).

Sometimes you wonder how the story would be if Oda wasn't the only mf writing it.
