Its not something that needs to be worried about all shanks has is swordsmanship and haki same as mihawk same as zoro
Zoros swordsmanship gets stronger through haki buffs
It's possible all Shanks has is Swordsmanship. Maybe all Benn has is Marksmanship and he loses to Yassop, or maybe it's more nuanced than that and there are other factors here that make Shanks and Benn stronger overall fighters than Mihawk and Yassop respectively while being inferior to them in their martial art. It's not obvious or clear, that's all I'm saying.

This is where your delusion comes in
Haki is a part of swordsmanship

If haki is part of Marksmanship also yassop is inferior to benn

It's obviously possible for Yasopp to be a more skilled marksman than Ben, while Ben still is the stronger marksman. Kuina was more skilled than Zoro, yet she admitted that simply due to her physical strength falling behind as a woman, she wouldn't be able to outperform a male swordsman at his physical peak.

And that's the point. Zoro's goal isn't to have the highest score displaying forms in front of a jury, but to be the greatest and strongest swordsman. That's why he is lifting weights and training Haki. His techniques are partially the same since east blue.

Honestly how many L’s can Zoro fans take before yall stop doing it to yourselves lmfao. Your only objection to this is that it would point to Saint Shanks not being a pure swordsman like Mihawk.
- Deskainu :
1/ He couldn't get past an already weakened Marco while being blood lusted :

2/ He used his signature attack, "Meigo," but failed to stop a 1HP severely injured, brain-dead, and tortured Kuma.

Afterward, 1 HP Kuma still had the strength to defeat New Pacifistas and Vice Admirals, land a punch on Saturn, and save Bonney from an attack using his back, this is how much Meigo affected him with literally nothing lmao :

3/ Sabo speed blitzed him and saved both Luffy and Ace while he was attacking Luffy :

4/ He couldn't hit Buggy who was overweight :

5/ He got sonned when Shanks came to Marine Ford :
Dude literally went from this

To this

When Shanks came, so NO lol

No wonder dude had to use Squardo to hope for internal betrayal before attempting any confrontation with Whitebeard

No wonder he had an equal 10 days fight with Kuzan later on, ending up scarred all over the body and barely winning despite magma devil fruit when regular fire can cancel out Kuzan's fruit:josad:

6/ Deskainu was treated as nonexistent and his presence was completely disregarded when Shanks was near him casually picking up the Straw Hat while leaving himself open and exuding confidence.

- Pizzalu :

1/ He got humiliated in a clash against Marco :

2/ He needed Marco to be distracted and in 2 v 1 with the help of a Vice Admiral to weaken him so he could affect his HP after the 1st humiliation :

3/ He couldn't get past an old man who was rusty and hadn't wielded a sword for decades and what's funny is Pizzalu started panting mid-clash:

4/ Pizzalu couldn't get past Gear 5th nor speed blitzing it and neither giving moderate damage which Kaido did for fun :

5/ His only damage against Gear 5th was giving a paper cut damage while using an army of clowns that got negdiffed:

6/ Franky, Sanji, Bonney, and Sentomaru suffered nothing from his attacks :
- Midkiji :

1/ He couldn't handle a human form Jozu without a distraction :

2/ He disappeared after a single open-handed attack from old Garp, who had been fighting hundreds of fodder soldiers and Teach’s officers. He only reappeared when Garp decided to leave.

3/ He couldn’t handle an old Garp who had significantly lost his strength due to age, even with thousands of fodder soldiers and Teach’s officers helping him. This only conveyed a sense of desperation on Blackbeard’s side.
No one believed in his strength lmao.

4/ He was speed-blitzed by an already weakened old Garp, who, with a hakiless and nameless throw, treated him as an afterthought to save Coby—and succeeded :

5/ He acknowledged being a weak ass without the help he received in Hachinosu against Garp by stating that they barely won with a team effort :

6/ He got stopped by Ace's flame attack easily :

- Fraudtora :

1/ A YC-level Zoro managed to send a slash from his weakest sword, even under his own gravity, to overpower Fraudtora's Devil Fruit power. Fraudtora was left shivering, pushed back, and kneeling, with his soldiers screaming his name :

2/ He failed to beat a Dressrosa Gear 2sd,3rd Luffy while stating that he was using his utmost :

3/ He couldn't do shit to 2 swords Zoro :

- Fraud Bull :

1/ He got sonned from miles away by Shanks's CoC and chose to retreat while he was shivering and crying :
モモの助や侍達を追い詰めるもシャンクスの覇気により退散

"Although he cornered Momonosuke and his comrades, he retreated due to Shanks's Haki."

If zoro beats mihawk with kaido df sword is he the wss?

If a sword transforms into a dragon and eats Mihawk alive, no, he wasn't bested through swordsmanship.

Why wouldn't haki be involved in Marksmanship?. It is and Benn is the inferior marksman, unless you believe Yassop just wouldn't use any haki at all to improve his marksmanship, which makes no sense. The sniper of the crew is not an inferior sniper to anyone else on the crew.

Being more accurate =/= being stronger

@EmperorKinyagi the more I think about it, the more it has to be true.

-Gryphon has never been stated to have a sword grade. This can’t be coincidence.

-Shamrock’s sword is also named Cerberus, so Saint Shanks’s sword being named Gryphon can’t just be a coincidence especially with the dichotomy you described in the OP.

So Saint Shanks returned to Mariejois, and they just gave him a mythical Zoan sword for no reason at all? “Hey welcome back to the Holy Land Figarland Saint Shanks, here is a mythical Zoan sword. Okay bye!” Hell no lmfao. Oda is trying to establish that Saint Shanks does indeed have connections to the Celestial Dragons that run deeper than simply being a CD by blood. Saint Shanks has some kind of loyalty to the World Government.

This all comes at the same time that Luffy’s faith in Saint Shanks is continually being challenged by the people around him. Oda even had Luffy acknowledge that he doesn’t know anything about Saint Shanks’s family, and Oda even also had Luffy falsely assume that Shamrock was a good person just by his relation to Saint Shanks. This all seems to be snowballing into a subversion of expectation for Luffy.

Saint Shanks is probably not evil like Shamrock, but he definitely seems to have some kind of ties or loyalty to the World Government, this stuff just continues to snowball chapter after chapter. Oda continues to challenge Luffy’s idolization of Saint Shanks, Oda has Luffy falsely assume Shamrock is a good person, Oda is even setting up Loki as a misunderstood “good guy” and Loki hates Saint Shanks.

Guys. It’s happening. Lol

Perhaps the term “evil” for Saint Shanks is too strong as Saint Shanks is no Shamrock, but Saint Shanks is definitely not the goody goody perfect pirate Luffy perceives him as being. He certainly seems to have some kind of loyalty to the Celestial Dragons.

This is basically the Goroseis opinion on Shanks. They think he could do a lot of damage, but they don't necessarily think he will

Yes he has a fruit in his sword. No he still isn't above Mihawk.
A swordsman will never be above the WSS unless that swordsman died before Mihawk got his title (like Roger and Ryuma), because then they don't fall under the jurisdiction of his title, and can be stronger than him without anything being contradicted.
It's not that hard to understand this, folks.

When you think about it, him having a fruit in his sword explains the hell out of him meeting Kaido and still making it to Marineford if he flew solo to that meeting

Whitebeard isn't a swordsman. He uses a Naginata with quake powers. Fujitora on the other hand is a swordsman. He was characterized as such, uses a sword and even incorporates his DF ability into swordsmanship (gravity blade), which is to some extend just mimicking ACoC. If Mihawk has trouble with some meteors crashing down, he wouldn't be the WSS. Same with King. There is a literal swordstyle designed to cut through fire as if a solid object, so why would someone amping his blade with fire be a problem?

It's not that Mihawk would seek swordsmen who can cast fire and create gravity and throw meteors, it's just that he wouldn't draw an arbitrary line and consider himself the world's strongest swordsman if he lost to Fujitora's gravity blade.

I get the sentiment that people like Big Mom, Kizaru or Law are a grey area because they are heavy lifted by their DF, especially Law's and Kizaru's abilities heavily revolve on DF specific moves, but as @ConquistadoR said, that's not where the money lies. We don't have to micro analyse DF merchants like Law and Kizaru, when we have pure, DFless and Haki based top tier swordsmen, both from the current and previous era (Shanks, Roger, Rayleigh, Xebec, ...). Kaido specifically grouped Shanks together with the likes of Whitebeard, Roger, Xebec and Oden in regards to the great pirates he encountered. So Mihawk being rivals with Shanks, having fierce duels remembered by Whitebeard as one of the legends and now standing as the WSS, is actually enough. We don't need do wonder if Law would fall into the WSS race with his Ope power, because he is anyways beneath the guy(s) Mihawk considers a peer.
The whitebeard murakumogiri has the nickname of cloud cutter, it is even derived from the name of the legendary Japanese sword popularly known as " Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi" (草薙の剣? , lit. "grass cutting sword" ), although it was originally called "Ame-no-Murakumo-no-Tsurugi" (天叢雲剣? , lit. "heavenly sword that gathers clouds")

It's literally a sword but with the long handle, it's like you say that Helmeppo doesn't use swords because he uses a "kukri" which is a type of knife with a distinct curvature on its blade
Or to say that Killer also doesn't use swords because he uses a kind of gaunts that looks like a scythe.

By the way, if you are going to compare WB's sword with Helmeppo's and Killer's swords, WB's weapon looks much more like a sword than the other two

But you are shamelessly inventing criteria to justify the fact that WB is not a swordsman, because clearly Mihawk's title would be a fraud.

The power of earthquake in WB's naginata, the power of shock whille in Law's sword, the power of Fujitora's gravitational control, King's power to control a burning dragon, or Shanks and Roger's power of CoC explosions, has nothing to do with sword skills that fit the swordsman's criteria, which would be cutting attacks.

That's why I include Kinemon, Brook, ghandi gorosei or Vista as swordsmen
, because despite using other elements such as ice, fire, petals and etc., they still use sword skills, that is, cutting attacks as their primary source of fight and power. Any other character who escapes from this fighting style is no longer fitting into the criteria of which Mihawk seeks to overcome everything and everyone.

Zoro faces opponents who have reportedly said they are not swordsmen, such as Daz Bones, King and Kaku precisely because they are opponents that Zoro needs to overcome to make Luffy king of pirates. You can be sure that if Zoro carried his solo career, he would never go after King, Bones or Kaku. He would go after famous figures who dominate swordsmen and use sword attacks as a primary means of fighting, this is the point I want to bring

When you will poetically interpret how Oda treats swordsmen in one piece, any seriously honest person would understand the characters who treat sword skills as the first source of his fighting style, this is very simple, you don't need to do all this nonsense of damage control and mental gymnastics to include the characters who are clearly not portrayed as one and start seeing reality

But you are shamelessly inventing criteria
I am not. Naming conventions aside, like Whitebeard's Naginata being called cloud cutter, it's not a sword. That's why Zoro wants to be the strongest swordsman and not the strongest cutting weapon user. His dream doesn't encompass users of polearms, axes or scythes. Because even though they are cutting devices, they come with a different fighting style.
Zoro faces opponents who have reportedly said they are not swordsmen, such as Daz Bones, King and Kaku
Kaku didn't say he isn't a swordsman. He said he is the CP9's best swordsman.

And why would Zoro after wasting King still remember Mihawk and his promise to never lose a fight until he meets Mihawk again and defeats him? If anything it proves that Zoro actually extended his premise to not just fight and win against pure swordsmanship Merchants, but to conquer any obstacle, yet still seeing Mihawk as the pinnacle standing in front of Zoro's dream to be the strongest.
