It doesn't matter if it makes sense to you or not, often One Piece doesn't. Oda has the characters say that Luffy is the man who beat Kaido and nothing more. No one ever says anything like, oh Luffy with help beat Kaido. Luffy is the man who beat Kaido, and will be treated like that from henceforth
