Oda needs to go full HxH to explain this wonky power system.

Oda not that good, curve those expectations immediately. At best you’ll get a bleach lvl explanation, that’s as inconsistent as Naruto. The worst of both worlds

They used haki the way swordsmen use it, as explained before, skills swordsmen are known for their cutting abilities with the katana. Swordsmen have their own 'advanced haki'

Oda wouldn't waste chapters hyping AdCoA that Rayleigh has just for retainers to showcase before Luffy gets to use it on Kaido and BM.

When it comes to barrier/flow, Oden had higher level of it.

Luffy can't showcase what the scabbard did this chapter precisely because he isn't a swordsman who knows that technique using the blade. Instead he learnt a new technique what you call advanced CoA which allows him to penetrate the skin with his fists (when that isn't possible usually) compared to the sharpness of the blade.

Pure Swordsman means simply Swordsman in my opinion

The correct definition would be Pure Sword Fighter, meaning there's a distinction laying in between a simple Sword Fighter and a Swordsman

Sidestepping the first part of your question, I'd say if swordfighters are using Ryou, then it must be distance techniques like Mihawk's slash at WB or his slash on the iceberg. Any kind of traveling slash that moves like a shockwave could be Ryou, I suppose.

Yep,it gets really annoying. At least fabricate something for a real term of the series to meet your needs. It is not like it will be the first time certain parts of the fandom do this. True Swordmen exist and was used by both Zoro and Momonosouke . Use that people...

Excellent question, I'd say yes and no; for example we all know that Mihawk's rival is Vista and both are pure swordsmen but Vista clearly has ryou (petals effect) wheras Mihawk for sure doesn't cause he focused on hardening and black blades shenanigans so didn't master Ryou
