Well, it was expected since the beginning that genetics played a role. Luffy's grandfather was Garp, the Hero of the Marines, and his father was Dragon, the World's Worst Criminal, so Luffy had it on him. The thing that bothers me actually is that Luffy is basically a copy of a past god... that crap is just the Naruto's way all over again.

I loved when Luffy just had the rubber fruit and, despite it not being a top-tier fruit, he could use it to its best potential. Now everything from the past and present seems to be lesser to some extent. For example, when Luffy rose up after receiving Rob Lucci's second Rokuogan back in Enies Lobby, was it on his sheer willpower (with a bit of "nakama power" from Usopp ofc, but I don't mind) or his mythical zoan played a role too?

Garp is Grap aka Crap

Side note here:

About genetics - Only Sanji and Loki have a real advantage based on their genetics. And only Loki is based on his lineage, Sanji's one was artificially created.

About nepotism - The word only has an importance when there is a transfert of position of power. In these cases, it's quite the opposite:

For Blackbeard, there are no position of power available for his lineage (his family was oppressed), so we can't talk about nepotism. As for the rest, most of the characters here refused the position of power granted by their parents at the exception of one: Shamrock.

So Shamrock here is the only real nepobaby (and if you take the background characters here, you could add Niji, Ichiji and Yonji I guess too,)

a lot of these are important connections to establish narratives, particularly about going against what's expected of you in regards to your heritage, which I think is more important than "ughhh sometimes Strong Person Has Strong Relative"

Do you guys even understand what nepotism is? It means getting a position you don't deserve through family relation.

The only nepotism you listed here is shamrock, sanji, and Loki. And I'm not even sure shamrock is nepotism. He's a legit shanks on steroids.

Genetics =/= lineage

That's a very limited interpretation of Nepotism.

It also could mean you are special solely due to your bloodline,.

I think this is a largely intellectualized thread. Meaning, they're over-complicating it out of ignorance.

What this thread is doing is weaponizing the term "nepo baby". What it fails to address is that despite whatever advantages these people believe exist individuals themselves still need talent to succeed otherwise they're not important characters.

Your personal grievances are being warped into an academic-adjacent term to make it sound smart.

I prefer characters who are the first in their lineage. I don't like the trope of someone being destined for greatness through their genetic history, I would rather read about the original who made that lineage great.

I remember it being a real bummer when I found out Naruto's father was Minato. Cheapened his image.

No it's everyone.

If you leech your bloodline in any way , it's nepotism.

Even if you are suffered because of bloodline and use that oppression to build your status like Rocks it is still Nepotism
That's not nepotism.

It simply means when one gives unfair preferential treatment or favouritism towards relatives because they are family rather than on the basis of merit.

It has to be unfair.

Someone helping a family member to get advantages to access to opportunities then it doesn't automatically makes it nepotism.

But if someone is helping a family member to get advantages which isn't fair or it is not on the basis of merit then it's nepotism.

Even Shamrock as nepo baby would be debatable if he's qualified to join the ranks.
