Oda hasn't given me a real reason to think otherwise.

Roger and Garp are like 40? And both have complete control over their AdCoC, and have had AdCoC for atleast around a decade? It's not like they pick up dfs later on or something. Pretty confident they are in their primes, I think this is around the same age as Shanks currently is so it checks out.

It's actually even more obvious when you look at Whitebeard, Oda made sure he has AdCoC + Gura + His Supreme Blade by God Valley. If Oda wanted the readers to think he wasn't in his prime he would atleast design WB in a way where he doesn't give him his supreme bisento which is basically a status symbol.

IIRC he doesn't have it here, or atleast it's not designed like the final product.

By God Valley, WB has everything his final product had.

The last thing I'm about to do is act like these guys are not in their primes just because I didn't like how Oda drew their fights in a flashback or that it didn't meet my expectations. I need real logical reason as to why, the ages are right there, the haki is all there, their weapons are all there.
WB's bisento made it clear. Oda purposely drew him with a generic one several years before GV, likely to show he was still growing. Yet by GV he had his signature supreme grade bisento, if Oda's intent was to show the man was a tier below his prime in GV and was still growing, it was the worst way to do it.

Wait, so are Garp and Dragon working together on evacuating the remaining people? I mean, Garp gave the order and Dragon threatened the Marine Guy? Kind of weird that they didn't interact directly, huh? I would hope we at least see that before the end of the flashback, but it doesn't seem like it's going to happen

It’s literally a part of his Jolly Roger though lol
Yea Oda retconned it. Initially Roger was supposed to have a stache here. But then he probably thought Roger should have a different design at different stages of his life, similar to Garp. At 40 he looks like Shanks does rn, at 50 he likely looks like an OG.

Lolda retconned Roja’s Jolly Roger, Roja’s gun, and Roja’s drip

Wtf are Lolda’s editors doing man
They don't think they can really think they should speak against him because his status is so high, and some of them are even OP fans, and fans working for the series they like is an actual *sin*

The worst has to be that Roja and Soyboy also have Luffys strawhat, which was supposed to be about his personal connection with Shanks

For me he Looks rather Like ace
I'm talking about in age. Both are 39 have light beards to signify being adults but still very young.

Ofcourse both Roger and Shanks are in their primes. This is Oda's go-to 40 year old design for these guys. If Shanks lives till 50 his beard will be a lot thicker.

On the cover page, Law and Bepo are taking a nice nap! How exciting! I bet they WISH they were doing this, given they were still lost at sea the last time we saw them. Maybe canonically, this is a hallucination they're having while stuck on a desert island together?

For any doubters, this first page proves that Garp DOES have the Voice of All Things, just like Roger and Rocks have. Although, they still don't seem to be putting two and two together, here. Is "mind control" really such a foreign concept in this world?

The forecast calls for...SKY SPLITTING! It's been a little while since we've gotten one of these. I wonder how plot-relevant these will actually end up being? Maybe this is all leading up to a sky-splitting so large that it cuts the Moon in half?

Hey, Silver Axe is still alive! I guess he might still do something, yet. You'll get your chance to do something, someday! Unless it gets told to us via a SBS!

Oooh, the jackets are coming off! That's how you KNOW Roger and Garp are getting serious! And they finally figured out that Rocks isn't in his right mind! I mean, I know they're both kind of lunkheads, but it took them long enough.

We actually get to see Big Mom and Kaido part ways on page. Huh. It's a little forced, but I guess it's nice to see it happen.

And we also learn who the pineapple-headed guy was a few chapters ago. It's not Marco but...Polo! Heh. I see what you did there, Oda. I'm not sure why this was important enough to focus on for a entire page, but I guess I'm glad Oda planned this.

Hey! Dragon actually gets to save a few people. By taking a Marine ship hostage at gunpoint, basically. Good to see Dragon actually accomplish something. Unless we learn that all these civilians he saved end up dead. Because it feels like that's still on the table. It would be weird if there were that many survivors of God Valley and the Davy Clan still around.

Gee, Saturn with Imu's eyes is kind of freaky-looking. So, Imu just..left, I guess? That's a little anti-climatic. You'd think Imu would have Saturn stick around to make sure Roger and Garp actually die. Classic villain mistake, there.

Well, the other half of the mountain collapses. Which DOES make this place look a lot more like Thriller Bark, just saying.

Garp wants to protect the Marines! By...never telling anyone what happened here. Weird. But, we might still get a explanation, later. Again, it's possible he forms SWORD as a result of this.

So, the key to hurting someone who's been Reversi'd is...just to use a LOT of Conqueror's Haki? Again...that's a little anti-climatic. I guess using Conqueror's Haki from every single part of your body is kind of a interesting idea. But, it kind of reeks of having to just "try harder" to win. And I think Luffy will come up with something different, in order to free Dorry and Brogy.

Roger using a Fire God attack with his sword Ace is curious foreshadowing for his son Ace getting the Flame Fruit. It's a curious destiny, there.

And Rocks...DOESN'T die with a smile on his face. Hmm. Well, either that means something about the Davy Clan, or Rocks isn't actually as dead as he looks, right now.

I'm a little surprised we basically got a full chapter to focus on this fight. We don't get that a lot in flashbacks. It was nice! And it feels like we still might get a chapter or two of epilogue for the God Valley era, before we flash forward again, to learn more about Herald's death. We'll probably at least get to see Herald's reaction to learning Rocks died on God Valley before we head back to Herald's death. Plus, I do think we need to see Roger discovering baby Shanks. And maybe have baby Buggy show up...somewhere.

honestly i feel like a lot of the reasons why the fights have been so lackluster and short is because of how burnt out he was from kaido vs luffy
Honestly? Very likely.

I think when you boil down over the years what Oda really wants to draw, its Luffy, Shanks and Blackbeard. Maybe to an extent the Marines and WG too, but I can see elements of where hes been really trying to get to certain major characters for 25 years and its apparent creating a world this big bit him in the ass because he gets bored easily.

He spent 10 years building up to Kaido and then spent at least a years worth of drawning fighting him, so I can see why Wano has obvious cuts even in its own story/conclusion. My only hope is he's excited to really focus on things like Loki, Shamrock, Shanks/BB, Akainu, Imu, etc since these characters havent been in the limelight long and they are tied to his endgame which may take longer than his buildup to Kaido.

Tbh he drew more than I expected for God Valley so personally Im not really complaining, but I can see how much he doesnt really care to elaborate more than what we've gotten already when we likely still have hundreds of chapters left in this story.
