Most marines fight pirates 99% of the time. Those who do evil stuff like invading countries are the Holy Knights. You can accuse the marines of turning a blind eye but the average marine hardly assists the WG and does help the people.

Some users don't seem to realise that Roger's speech about the One Piece created an era of reckless pirates who sailed to find the treasure. Many, many pirates. Guess who have to save the civilian's asses when they're being invaded by pirate scum? The navy. 99% of pirates aren't like the WBP or the strawhats. They plunder, they kill people (or do other things), they rob, they destroy - even the "good Xebec" destroyed many towns when sailing. The navy is mostly fighting exactly these type of pirates.

It's because the story focuses on everything bad related to the WG, but we're clearly mean to believe that the average marine is upstanding despite the pressence of corrupt trash. Didnt say they were the only good marines, Im sure there are more but the way Oda has been going about it. With this, Ohara, Egghead. Its kinda hard to argue that the majority of the marines are good guys doing good deeds only, Im sure they do ''good deeds'' by stopping pirates and shit, but then you also have these whacky missions where they have to obey orders and they do shady shit.

Harald wouldnt know about shady missions like God Valley,etc.

To chime in about Ace and Dragon:

Ace was definitely a pirate, he flew the Jolly Roger, captained his own crew, the works. But him being the son of Roger was the paramount "crime" he was being executed for. Even if he lived a humble life as a fisherman, if the WG learned who he really was and where he lived, he still would have been dragged to Marineford to be executed.

As the WG operates on the "sins of the father" style of law. So, Ace simply was an enemy of an injust world from day one.

Dragon, had Garp not saved him, would have likely been tried as a would-be pirate and executed as the WG is corrupt and authoritarian.

If not would be pirate Dragon would be executed for mutiny.

The 4 Blues come to mind cause those are very far removed from all the worse stuff that takes place on the Grand Line and even the New World. That thin strip of sea is a place no one really knows about outside of Morgan's papers lol. Most of the population is in those 4 calmer corners of the sea. We're used to it now but going to the Grand Line and such is seen as an impossibility by normal people, and not only that people call the Grand Line paradise compared to the New World. At worse in the 4 Blues you deal with corrupt leadership like Morgans or the Mouse guy.
