Chapter Discussion FINAL VEREDICT on God Valley Incident

Subjective opinion :

With Xebec becoming my favorite one piece character , GV incident was great for me as his fan.

Objective opinion :

Total garbage .

Whitebeard reputation ruined beyond repair ; Yonkos which were being hyped as supporting Xebec till the end actually left him when he needed them the most . Also they are shown to be dumb as fuck for not recognising something was wrong.

Not to mention some big names like Rayleigh , Gaban , Shiki , Gloriosa , Stussy not doing really anything . Holy knights are total disappointment . Fights too short ( this was at east expected but still not an excuse ) , Imu left just like that .

Oda failed big time considering how much hyped GV was.

Lazy is the way
Imo involving Imu was the biggest mistake he made here.

I hate the idea of using fridging to advance plot but there was a very clear means to drive Rocks away from everyone else, the slaughter of his clan and "failing" to protect his family.

He could have been made extremely angry at GKs when he finds out his clan was murdered. This causes him to just start destroying everything, putting victims in harms way, and betraying his crew because he also thinks his family died. Right there is the exact excuse for his crew to leave him and for Roger and Garp to stop him.

Why this doesnt happen I have no idea. I still dont get why Imu had to be there, let alone the fact that all Yonko and Roger and Garp have known this entity exists. Like, theres zero agency on that at all lol. Nobody even acknowledges (outside of Garp with Sengoku) what they encountered lol
I agree for the most part

2 things for me :

- I don’t know what was Oda initial idea with Rocks but I can’t stop the feeling that Oda made Rocks a little bit more nice than what he planned to : he didn’t stab kid Loki on panel and only shockwaves him, his crew only raid a scam cult on panel, shakky love eyes, etc etc.

So I think Oda with how he made Rocks didn’t want to write him wrecking havoc and causing mass destruction and murder because he wanted too and because he was mad his family was killed. I also would have preferred that over a DR Rocks but Oda chose other way. So Imu was the way.

- Imu was a problem here because way too many people interacted with Saturnimu and it made things weird. No one questioning it after wards is weird. And the most bullshit thing is the reactions to DR Rocks as if nothing happened.
Imu was meant to be a shadow figure, no one saw in centuries and hidden.

I would have preferred things to occur that way : Rocks vs Imuturn 1 vs 1 and no one nearby. Rocks being DRd. Starting to go wild. Attack his own crew maybe. Then being stopped by Roger/Garp. Would have made more sense for me.

Liked it overall but had some issues.

Positives - Dragon related content was really good, seeing him in a similar location to Luffy in marineford unable to really accomplish anything due to lack of strength but still striving to do the right thing added a lot to this character.

Which was perfectly capped off when he held his superior at gun taking matters into his own hands, got me eagerly anticipating present day Dragon making his move.

Xebec/Garp/Roger - the main event that was hyped up all those years ago, I wish the right had been longer but I enjoyed what we got between them and seeing Roger and Garo fighting side by side was really cool to see.

Negatives - Shakky subplot was just ridiculous for me, one of the most important event involving all these important factions in the verse and it’s because of everyone listing for Shakky just didn’t do it for me at all. Soured things for me.

Clash piece - this has been an ongoing problem for one piece for the longest since Marineford, but this is even more jarring now when we’re in the final saga

Good and Bad.

I had low expectations for God Valley and didn't expect full fights, so because of that, I still kind of enjoyed God Valley.

However at the same time, God Valley was still a bit disappointing.

A lot of characters that should have had way more focus, just didn't much at all.

Ray was basically an uber driver for Shakky and later on Roger
Gaban didn't do much either
Shiki was unfortunately disappointing
Silver Axe was a bum
And the God's Knights for the most part were just useless

Then you have the fact that Kaido, Big Mom, and especially Whitebeard all had their brains turned off, and assumed that Rocks betrayed them, even though they should have noticed that Rocks's appearance and personality was completely different after being stabbed by Imu/Saturn.

This imo was especially bad for Whitebeard's character.

As for the moments that I did enjoy.

Rocks to the very end, I thought was a really great character and he did not disappoint when it comes to power level
Garp imo was also really great as well, the man made three future Yonko's run away lol
While it was really disappointing that we didn't see much from Garling in terms of power level, I thought Garling for the most part was a decent villain
I did enjoy the moments we got from Dragon
And of course imo Kuma truly was the real MVP of God Valley

5/10
Don't recall seeing one great double spread, the HK were useless, Shikki and most top tiers were wasted, not even one full chapter for the main fight, Imu just leaving, WB and Kaido abandoning Xebec despite willing to fight alongside him against Imu.

MUUGEN

呪のろいの王
Yeah, yeah, but he is the leader of an army that wants to take down the Celestial Dragons; you need military strength to accomplish that. Dragon has done nothing in over a thousand chapters. I expected some fighting feats from him.
1. he doesnt need to be seen atm, this isnt his arc nor his flashback, he was a rookie that went off on his own and tried to protect and save people and was tasked with getting the twins to safety.
2. this is the start of Revo inception
3. His dad is Garp haki master & his son is Luffy lol that speaks for itself and is being saved for a later time to come. SMoker did not want any smoke from Dragon so his prowess alone was already shown and reflective in his CoA ability to counter Logias at a time where they virtuously invincible
4. this is where we are going to see his title formed as he witnessed the G incidents and escaped imprisonment,, things are working out as they should.

I agree for the most part

Yep, I wonder why we needed to have the 6v1 attack. I cant tell if it was an Oda or editor choice but regardless it reads like fanservice instead of serving the plot.

Yeah you mentioning that now makes me realize that Rocks and Imu needed payoff so in the least it should have been an exclusive encounter and maybe better acknowledgement from his crew that he turned bad.

@GeneralP123 @Reborn @Jailer @Monster Zoro's Tesla Supplier

I honestly thought Davy Jones would show up as a spirit during Xebec's death where only Xebec can see him.

There, Jones uses Vision of All Things to look 40 years in the future and reassure Xebec that his son and someone else will co destroy the government.

And then, Jones flies away with baby Teach in his arms to a safer place and then vanishes away after sealing some of his powers in Teach.

:finally:
Well three skull theory officially put to rest:josad:

There are so much amazing things happened and so much rocks left unturned. Since this is Xebec and Harald centric story, I give it 7.5/10. I got what I wanted about story of Xebec, it was amazing from moment of his intro towards the end, being a great pirate, powerful, courageous, care about family, etc. But Harald on the other end is straight out giving me the opposite feeling. He went from being an unhinged scumbag to being a weak begging fool and he did it on his own will. Of course it's not only because of the individual themselves but also the environment. The story is showing of two similar characters from the start and then divert into two very drastic path due to their fate/destiny.

It could have been a 9 or 10 if Oda actually shows what we have been eager to know about the rest of the GV. Example the other 7 treasures, we already know about the Paw Paw fruit and Fish Fish fruit, but what are the other treasures which baffled even more of expanding the original 6 treasures to 9. Not sure whether Oda is trying to set things up for the future lore or there will be a GV movie or something, this is just weird decision.

The rest of the Rocks Pirates besides Xebec and the big three are really underwhelming, same goes for Rogers Pirates and God Knights. All of them off-screened. This is bad consider Oda drew the incredible introduction of each factions which ends up nothing happened.

The rest of Rocks Pirates have nothing to do with Xebec being DR and died on GV. Them and Xebec have separate goals, they are after the treasures and Shakky while Xebec is finding his family, it's understandable as Xebec has never told anyone about his family. What's bad are they are not taking part in the main story. Showing some clashes with the God's Knights could have make it better, but who knows...

Whitebeard, Bigmom, and Kaido not being able to realize Xebec is controlled by Imu is the most baffling plot in GV. They are blind/lack of situation awareness or their bonds with Xebec were not as strong as we assumed to be. Whatever it is, It's just bad, real bad.

Roger and Garp are clearly enemies but the GV didn't even have a single panel of them clash. What is weirder is Roger and Garp are already in truce before the conversation of calling it. It feels like Oda changed the story mid way and break the the cohesion, or again some off-screened panels that should have fill the gap.

Rayleigh and Gaban. Honestly I like Rayleigh's little love story even he doesn't have much feat being shown except he sent Sommers flying. But there is nothing to see with Gaban unfortunately. At the end they seems to witnessed Garling stabbing Xebec, did Gaban fought Sommers there? Come on another off-screened.

God Knights are all off-screened, nothing to say about them except them being clowned. Oda is deliberately saving them for Elbaph and MarieJois.

All right, since Loki's flashback is ending, now is the turn for Gaban's flashback, let's go.
