New Forum Rating System

I would like to suggest the introduction of a new rating system which would substitute for our current liking system.

Being so obsessed with likes I found out the liking system doesn't properly disclose the quality of a poster but it's more a sort of a childish circlejerk by which thousands over thousands of likes are spread for futile content like copypasta, counting threads and so on.

This can be highly misleading and unfair in that users that don't deserve it at all, are recognized as the ones with most likes, when they instead stand as mediocre users.

The point of likes is to define which users post the best content but the original meaning for likes is getting scandalously butchered.

It would be nice if merit was instead prioritized.

We don't really need likes, we need a feature that can truly recognize the best WG users.

Liking system is the only aspect I truly despise about XenForo.

It would be lovely if WG featured a system that can entice members to post quality content and be recognized as quality posters.

So my proposal is to abolish the liking system and then draw up a better system that meets the criteria I presented.

So what I'm trying to get here is that you are trying to make the liking system more fair and well-deserved for the users that deserved them but not for spam or scandal? If that's the case then it's fine I guess but just don't stress out too much about it, beta:cheers:We are know that you're a cool guy mang:kata:As Poseidon used to say:myman:Supporters (in this case is likes) are unnecessary to those who have already attained perfection which is you:finally:

Garbage like Copypasta and other nonsense have made likes irrelevant. If somebody like me get over 15K likes, you know that something is wrong.

I suggest limiting like count per day. e.g. a user is only allowed to hand out up to 200 likes per day or something similar.

That should reduce this tendency of liking everything that comes across the forum.

It is very tough to measure actual quality of something. The only way would be to hope people start appreciating good content rather than spams.
@Finalbeta What kind of Medal system are you talking about? One where users can give each other medals or will it be given by staff or certain group?
I can suggest to make certain people responsible for this. Different users can look after different sections and they can award medal accordingly. And don't remove like system let it be a thing.

This is a very good solution.
But isn't 200 likes way too much?

Since there are more than 1,000 posts per day in various threads, 200 may be the sweet-spot, though Mods and Admins may be better suited to identify a better number based on statistical data available to them.
But then if we start to actually consider an improvement in the quality of the posts... restricting it in any way would be unfair don't you think?

Likes were irrelevant far before copypasta. Mind you « raids » were a thing even on Oro Jackson.

Not restricted! I hope for a number that will allow users to hand out likes when they see a quality post but not hand out like for any post they come across.

It can be changed by Mods/Admins if most users agree that the number is too restrictive.

I don't really mind likes system, but what you propose (a like limit per day) is not a bad solution to like only content your really think is quality.

Medals or rewards for tournaments or others stuffs can be nice too.

Obviously nothing is perfect. But your like limit idea has potential

At the end of the day I believe the usefulness of likes was to depict which users were the bests quality wise based off their content, however the system broke immediately.

I'm apparently the most liked, and yet I'm parsecs away to be warranted such position, which is the hilarious controversy of the liking system.

A medal system could render things more interesting and promote equity, under a proper organization.

It could be the staff assigning medals to certain users depending on what they attained or even a group of users independently from either they are staff members or not.

The liking system is just a circlejerk the way I see it and doesn't reflect merit.
Funnily the system doesn't even reflect how active a member is. And this because a few users simply don't receive as many likes as other may obtain, futile content or not.

This is an amazing idea. Every user has the power to hand out likes to infinity. If you limit the amount of likes they can give, then users will naturally prioritize who they think deserve them.

The only downside obviously would be a spam creation of new accounts that have all these likes "stored" in them so they can use them on one specific user, which would inflate that particular user's true likes. However, these accounts can be found very easily: you would just need to look at who's content they like (i.e. if they only like one person's posts), and if these accounts post at all and judge their legitimacy. Another solution for this could be that a new account can only give a very very limited amount of likes and as time goes on they will be able to give more.

I suggest the limitation to be applied to 50 likes per day

However the current likes count has to return to 0 or else the entire system would prove falsified
