That is true. But in almost every other way Zoro gets better portrayal.

He even uses same techniques as Roger meaning he has been studying under Roger to learn from his swordsmanship not even Zoro learned that from Mihawk instead choosing to focus on haki. Roger passed on both to Shanks

Roger was a swordsman and stronger than Mohawk, no one denied that, same with Shanks, but will give them benefit of the doubt and have them as equals.
